Joe Pavelski has just set an unfortunate NHL record.

Good thing for him, he might not hold this record for long.

On Thursday, Pavelski and his Dallas Stars dropped Game One of the Western Conference Finals, 3-2 in OT, to the Edmonton Oilers. That was Pavelski’s 196th playoff game, setting the record for most post-season appearances without a Stanley Cup.

  1. Jack Eichel never even went to a playoff game till last season and he won the Stanley Cup with the VGK , so anything can happen

  2. Very true that many players are playing golf in April but those guys were playing and had a chance. Playing in 16 playoffs may be a record. Thats pretty remarkable and Joe played a huge part in getting there.

  3. There’s a video on YouTube that discusses the different sports and how chance plays a role. Tennis being the most predictable because of less variables. It’s based on possession and how predictable possession is.

  4. Definitely one of my favorite players with the Sharks, having him leave after the Karlsson contract was tough, bittersweet if he wins with Dallas, but I am definitely rooting for him!

  5. Joe Pavelski has been my favourite player since he joined the sharks. The biggest reason is for his playoffs performance. I really hope he can hoist the cup this year, I feel it!

  6. I’m waiting for Joe to get a breakaway and Connor to have to chase him from the other side of the ice.
Love Joe, but what’s burns said it so true it’s funny when you see it! Dude skates sloow and steady. You can’t unsee it

  7. One of my favorite players. We are lucky to have JT Miller here in Vancouver who reminds me of Joe's work ethic, leadership and play making skill.

  8. I still get a chuckle over John Tortorella saying Joe Thornton will never win a Cup, and he was right.

  9. I’m rooting for Dallas & Joe & Pete as hard this year as if they were still on the Sharks. With names like Marchment & Suter on the team, it’s almost like they are.

  10. Damn that sucks. I appreciate everything sharks did fighting to try to get that fucking cup. But to see our sharks leading that line and I bet by a good margin, only depressingly reminds me god damn we choked on some good years. And that’s not including 16’

  11. Joe Pavelski needs to score 24 goals next season to make it to 500. He is still capable. He has scored over 25 goals in each of the last four seasons with the Dallas Stars.

  12. You make a good case for Pavs Brodie, but I'm going to throw another name at you. Brian Propp. Five trips to the Stanley Cup finals… FIVE!… without a win.

Contrast that with Ron Hainsey – 14 seasons in the league without playing a single playoff game then gets traded to Pittsburgh and wins it in his first try.

  13. It's not just that Joe Pavelski has made the playoffs 16 times, it's also that he had advanced past the first round 11 of those 16 times. He's already in his seventh conference finals, alas he's only made the finals twice and fell short both times. I've always said that I don't think it's a coincidence that the Sharks fell on hard time as soon as Joe Pavelski left San Jose. I hope he gets his Cup at long last, but he also doesn't seem to be having the same impact in these playoffs as he had in years past. That makes me really nervous.

  14. The 48th, 49th, and 50th members of the NHL 500+ Goals Club. It's going to happen next season. And after Alex Ovechkin passes Wayne Gretzky for all-time goals, the Hockey News Magazine needs to do a special collector's edition dedicated to the NHL 500+ Goals Club Members, ranking them based on their skills and talent, and let's see how much different the list will look.
    48. 498 – Evgeni Malkin
    49. 476 – Joe Pavelski
    50. 471 – Patrick Kane

  15. Joe Pavelski continues to hold the record for most playoff goals by an American-born player – # 74 scored last week.

  16. 'Recent' Sharks fans don't remember that the Stars used to play out of the Pacific division and there were heated battles between our organizations (remember Sharks/Stars Double OT elimination and Nabby's save on Brad Richards). But, it's 2024, and if it means Pavs hoists the cup then I'm cheering for the Stars.

  18. Reminds me of Ray Bourque. Hope this isn't a jinx either, seeing that Bourque finally got his cup…

  19. I hope he wins 🙏 my favorite player never won the cup but came really close to winning in game 6 in the 2004 stanley cup finals #12 iggy

  20. For the longest time, it was Mats Sundin at the top of the list of most games without a cup. I'd like to think that this year's Dallas team is better that any of the Toronto teams Mats had to carry.

  21. He is an amazing player, but let's face it, he has slowed down considerably during the last 2-3 months, specially in the Playoffs where he is no longer fit to be part of a 1st or 2nd line. I hope he wins his cup this year as he won't have the energy to compete in this fast league next year.
