  1. Wow I think Ottawa might have got the better end of this deal. Upgrading goalie is always priority 1 for most teams and they did this by the end of this season and can now look ahead to next year good on them

  2. I think people are underestimating Essensa here. Look at how many goalies he’s churned out into great net minders. I think Korpisalo at $3m has massive upside even if we’re just going to flip him. Yeah if he plays like he did in Ottawa we’re fucked but if he gets back to his columbus days and we flip him we’ll get two firsts for a backup goalie who had 1 year left. Everyone’s hating but I think this has a decent upside and could make Sweeney look like a genius 8 months from now.

  3. Maybe it's luck or maybe that's just the way things work out, but Ottawa's Tarasenko trade with Florida has now officially been upgraded to a third rounder instead of a fourth rounder—on top of landing Ullmark, a goalie who actually wants to play in Ottawa!

  4. Horrible trade on Boston's end! Korpi has never been a very good goaltender, Bussi would have been much better as a developing (and cheaper) backup. I can't think that Sweeney will draft at 25 anyone who will change Boston's offensive fortunes. And the other player, the last thing we needed was another bottom six, when we need a highly talented scoring winger, and a 1C, 2C. This was a hacked-up trade, with the only benefit being CAP relief.

  5. I'm not a Boston or Ottawa fan, but I will be watching the ends of their first few wins, just to see who, if anyone, Swayman and Ullmark hug.

  6. Very good value in return for the Bruins. I think they did pretty well, I also hope that the goalie hug tradition will continue.

  7. First off, taking Korpi is obviously a “pump and dump” plan. He’s going to do far better in Boston than he would have in Ottawa, and they’ll be able to flip him out for at least a decent 2nd round pick.

  8. excellent trade for Ottawa. The only thing is that it didnt come with an extension. Thats the only weird detail. Otherwise, well done for Staios

  9. Sure the B's get their draft pick, but then this trade becomes a goalie swap.Sweeney traded a Vezina winner for $24 worth of beads. And a good way to piss Bussi off when you're at the cusp of signing him. What does the guy have to do to get on this team?

  10. I think Ottawa's D is going to blow up Ullmarks numbers like its done with most of their goalies. Hope he can weather the storm.

  11. Do Ottawa still have Forsberg? In that case that is a goale tandem gone full circle. Forsberg and Ullmark was once upon a time the goalie tandem in Modo in the Swedish league before they took the jump across the pond.

  12. Don't hate it for Boston. Ullmark hasn't got an extension and wouldn't be re-signing there anyway with Swayman taking start position. And if Ottawa has a bad year, Ullmark will move on from them too. It's a first and a bottom 6 center for 1 year of a goalie who really hopes he won't be fed to the wolves like Korpi was.

Korpi redemption arc will be beautiful.

  13. As long as Ottawa get Ullmark to extend this is a really good trade for Ottawa, they really needed an upgrade in goal. If he gets flipped at the trade deadline because he doesn't want an extension ,it won't look so good. I'm guessing he's already been asked and said he would extend?

  14. I thought you wear the jersey of the team that gets the best player lol. The best player Boston got was pick #25.

  15. Boston fan bias lol. Normally wears the jersey for who got the better player especially when a draft pick is the main prize

  16. Can't understand how any hockey fan doesn't see that it is the bruins that make great goalies, not the other way around. Not to say that they aren't quality net minders. Just saying that the senators do not have a valuable structure were as the Bruins have had incredible goalies for over two decades. At this point, if you think Ullmark( who i respect and screamed for him to come to Boston) was a Vezna goalie in Buffalo, i beg you to delve into his career. Talented, yes, not Vezna. Korpisallo in Columbus was a superior goalie for the team he was on. Getting the pick back was important for the future which they morgaged trying to get a cup. Paying your debts is important even though you've already spent the money and now have to struggle. They are trying to climb out of a hole they created to get a cup. Didn't hear any fans complaining then. Let's think about this reasonably and realize the team is making the right moves to continue the success that all Boston fans have been lucky enough to have.

  17. Everyone but Hockey guy saying this is a bad trade, this is how you know the Bruins fleeced and we'll be talking about vezina finalist Korpisalo

  18. What is this guy talking about? Korpi was one of the worst goalies in the league.. if not the worst. He was honestly one of the biggest reason Ottawa was so shit. Sens were 12 th in goals expected last year. Even average goaltending should get them close the playoffs. Sens fans were thinking they’d have to give up that 25 th just to get rid of Korpis contract.. to get a Vezna in return to boot?!! Easy grand slam win for the Sens

  19. Boston got hosed. Somehow Calgary got a better return for Markstrom who is older and worse than Ullmark. That Korpisalo contract is abysmal.

  20. Who knows weather or not he can have a bounce back year or if Ottawa's defense was, at least partially, responsible for his bad season. Either way I'm glad the Sens were able to unload most of his contract. I'm ok with Forsberg as the backup. Kastelic was expendable in my opinion.

  21. Hes not gonna face as many ahots in Boston as he did in Ottawa? But Ottawa allowed less shots than Boston last season. Their "horrible defence" was pretty muddle of the pack by virtually every fancy stat. The problem was korpisalo.
