  1. I wonder if teams will now be even more likely to offer sheet swayman, if for nothing else, than to drive his price up for the Bruins.

  2. As a Bruins fan. I feel betrayed. I loved watching them both.

Also very sad about the hug. The Goalie Hug. It was iconic.

Plus. Bruins had Bussi as a potential goalie, down in Providence. We also have DiPietro.

We got weaker. We definitely got weaker. Unless this pick is shown to be someone with potential. A dynamic scorer.

    Bruins got fleeced.

  3. For me this just makes no sense. Bruins have Bussi who has been the best ahl goalie for most of the last two seasons. We just don’t need korpisalo. Honestly would’ve been better off just keeping him until a team gets plagued by injuries and gets desperate

  4. The Bruins did well in this trade:

    (a) They got a return for someone (Ullmark) who they didn't really need, i.e., they didn't need to pay a starter backing up another starter so they got rid of one of those starters for assets they can actually use properly.

    (b) They got a really good backup goalie (Korpisalo) who will now flourish since he's playing in front of a team that actually knows how to play good team D.

    (c) They got a player (Kastelic) who strongly fits a 4th line role and plays a style that Boston can use both in the regular season and playoffs.

    (d) Boston gets another good pick in the draft (25th overall). While Steve says this is really a glorified 2nd round, Boston should be able to find a good role for whoever they end up picking

    How did Ottawa do?

    (1) Ottawa gets to hope that Ullmark saves their bacon more often than they saw their goaltenders do last year: more grade A saves will be seen this year if Ottawa's team D continues to struggle.

    (2) Ottawa frees up $12 million of cap space (from the Korpisalo contract) albeit they will have to eat $4 million in dead cap space.

    (3) Ottawa needs to think about how and if they can sign Ullmark to a long-term deal. Presumably, if they were giving up long-term assets (Korpi, a signable Kastelic and a 25th overall pick) they would like to have Ullmark signed long-term, a proven #1 goaltender in this league.

    My 2 cents:

Not having Ullmark signed long-term as part of the deal is a red flag for me (from the Ottawa perspective). In the past, Ottawa has had player additions (e.g., Duchene and DeBrincat) refuse to sign with the team so why did Ottawa upper management not assure themselves of their long-term control over this newly acquired asset?

Even if Ullmark does sign long-term with the team how well will Ullmark perform in front of Ottawa's poor D? My guess is he will improve the team but his save percentage will be far poorer than what he had in Boston. I believe he will be an upgrade over Korpisalo and Forsberg but I'm not sure he will be any better than what Ottawa had in Talbot or Gustavsson. I mention Gustavsson because that is who Ottawa had before the team decided to embark on a series of trades, now ending up with the team acquiring Ullmark.

From the Boston perspective, the Bruins get an A grade from the deal.

  5. Well that explains Woll being extended for too much money too soon….Leafs are in a shitstorm right now, they are not getting better by trading marner… maybe different, but not better.

  6. Given that I was expecting Ottawa to either have to give up a first to dump his contract or buy him out at a larger cap hit for double the years this is a steal for Ottawa. Yes Korpi is better than he showed last season, but he is nowhere near as good as Ullmark. This is probably a win for Ottawa even if they don't resign Ullmark and if they do it's even better.

  7. Fun Fact, that 25th overall pick use to be Boston's own pick! They traded it to Detroit for 6 weeks of Tyler Bertuzzi. The Wings, took that pick and used it to get Alex DeBrincat from Ottawa. So in a weird 3 team/2 year trade, Ottawa acquired Ullmark, Detroit acquired DeBrincat, and Boston gets Korpisalo. In the words of Steve Dangle Oof Marone!

  8. That trade path of the #25 pick is actually quite interesting, because it is Boston's own pick. They traded it to Detroit for Tyler Bertuzzi back in the day. Detroit than traded it to Ottawa in the DeBrincat deal, who now traded it back to Boston. 🤣

  9. The real question is where ullmark signs next year. If he walks (Boston probably couldn't sign the two goalies anyway as they both deserve starting goalie salaries) then it makes sense and is a good trade for Boston. If ullmark stays in Ottawa it's a big win for them, if they trade him at deadline and recoup assets it's a small win and if he leaves after one season for nothing, Boston wins the trade

  10. Love this deal for both teams. Bruins traded away there backup goalie, got a cheaper backup goalie thats signed for 3 years, a pick and player.

I know ullmark isnt a backup but for the bruins he is

  11. Trade doesnt make sense to me from the Boston side. I feel like they couldve gotten more. What is funny is all of the goalies the Leafs fans think theyre getting are all being traded. Who plays goal for the Leafs next year? Woll?

  12. I mean unless they whip Kastilec into shape, he isn’t a mean player, there’s clips of him being chewed out by Alfredsson for not finishing checks

  13. Mark Kastellic is a big, useless 6 foot 4, 225 pound body that doesn’t use his size, can’t score, only decent defensively. Decent on face offs.

  14. Korpisalo is an underrated goalie because he’s had to deal with HORRIBLE defense for the past few years, I’m really excited to see what he can do in boston

  15. Sens win this one. Korpisalo might do well as a backup, but Swayman will be carrying the majority of load in Boston. Kastelic was too inconsistent during the season and saw his TOI diminished in most games. I suspect come next season, unless Boston is looking for a 4th line center, they'll place him on waivers so he can play in the AHL or he'll be a 13th forward.

  16. I gotta disagree with Steve here. I think this a great trade for the Sens and that's coming from a highly judgemental season ticket holder. It's Boston getting their own pick back, a gritty and reliable 4th liner, and a goalie who needed a change of scenery. And the Sens will get some reliability and consistency in the spot they need it the most. I think Boston gets a good deal out of this too.

  17. Bruins Fan.

I was never under the impression the Bruins were going to make any waves in moving Ullmark. He’s a UFA end of the up coming season. Had he have say 2 years left on his contract they could’ve gotten more. I’m guessing.
They got a few players back to fill spots. The got Ullmark money off the books. Gives them that much more freedom to land a Free Agent or 2. As well as resign whoever.
Swaymen is the Goalie. As much as I like Ullmark. It’s just time to move forward from him.

  18. I was pissed when i saw this, not the return i thought Boston would get.
I knew detroit had kicked tires, and seeing the underwhelming return, im angry that yzerman wouldnt pay up, and instead let a direct rival improve.
