What changed in Game 7 that led to Florida winning Stanley Cup? | Jay on SC

After losing three straight games, the Panthers came out on top in Game 7 to beat the Oilers and lift their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. TSN Hockey analyst Cheryl Pounder and TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button join SC with Jay Onrait to discuss how the Panthers were able to come up with the win after the series seemed to be slipping away, Stuart Skinner’s performance in Game 7, what the future holds for the Oilers, Connor McDavid’s legacy and much more.

  1. Last 14 seconds… That scrum in the corner. McDavid and another Oiler standing in front of the net. If that puck goes to the middle of the ice they are alone against Bob. And when the buzzer goes McDavid slams his stick on the ice.

  2. Diaper Soilers 🛢️💥 💩 heading back to that toilet 🚽 known as Canada. Florida Panthers Stanley Cup champions 🏆 🐈🏒💪 😎

  3. yea, well, when was the last time Canadian teams went back to back Cup finals????? Yep, American teams do it frequently, Canadian teams dont…..so to say, yea Florida had it happen to them last year, sure, they are American. Look at all the Canadian teams that were one-and-done since Montreal last won the cup. (Vancouver 94, Calgary 04, Edmonton 06, Ottawa 07, Vancouver 11). It was great to have the run from 04-07, but nobody could get back to win the following season.

It goes one of 2 ways obviously, tweak it, resign all the guys that got you there, may be acquire the piece that you need to win it, like FLA did, OR it becomes a fire sale and a total rebuild ALL OVER AGAIN…….yea…..I look back at 2006, lost G7, never even made playoffs the following season, never got back again till 2024. That's what happens in Canada. Calgary 2004, never got there ever again since.

Draisaitl is to be a UFA, will they even be able to keep him? Connor McDavid has two years left on his deal and forwards Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evander Kane are signed beyond next season. Defenseman Evan Bouchard, who has emerged as the Oilers' top defenseman, is eligible for an extension. I guess time will tell to see how committed and serious this team is on pulling the trigger on nailing the Stanley Cup next season.

  4. As much as I might admire McDavid as a virtuoso hockey player, celebrities don't win cups, teams do, and FL was the better team, period.

  5. Lets go PANTHERS!!!!!!! They were the better team and it showed. Shout out to Barkov for clamping down the best players of the oilers.

  6. Don’t forget Sid Crosby came back in the playoffs to beat the red wings as a really young player! Not to mention he won the gold medal OT winner 🏆!!! Connor mcdavid still has to win a cup to even be discussed in the the greats category!🤷🏻‍♂️

  7. How great are the Panthers, they beat the team with the best hockey player on the planet, shutting him down. Drysockets head hunt cheap shot on Barkov showed what this team really is. Enjoy your stolen loser trophy!

  8. Panthers started playing how they've played all season. They forgot how to Panther for a few games . When the Panthers play their game NOBODY beats them 🐀🐀🐀🐀

  9. The Oilers broke what they were doing. Bring family for game 7, hurt them just like it did for Panthers! Lesson learned I hope!

  10. The Best that TSN could do….A Clown that interviews a successful WOMENS Olympic hockey player with no NHL experience, when there a thousand ex NHL players that have experienced the grind, and a full of himself never played the game, cant even figure out how to put on socks curly haired know it all… Good Luck keeping your audience!!!

  11. So by their logic Connor McDavid was a passenger game 6 and 7? That doesn't make any sense. He play incredible throughout the playoffs and unfortunately they had to be a loser in the game and Connor could easily be hoisting the cup as well as the Panthers

  12. Edmonton looked lethargic, playing at half the pace of the prior games. Even the announcers saying they looked 'Gassed' – no intensity. What happened?

  13. I have to say Tkachuk was a pretty big disappointment this series. Only 3 points through 7 games and his physical play was completely absent. I imagine he was injured but I am surprised that the Panthers pulled it off without him performing at his usual pace.

  14. McDavid is great but to put him in a Gretzky , Mario,or Bossy league is crazy. At least not yet. He would need to be another level before putting him in the conversation with those guys.

  15. Let’s be honest. It is extremely hard to win 4 in a row. Also I might be in the minority, but accept for the fact that is was a close game until the end I thought it was a lame game and a lame winning goal.

  16. Nothing changed. Florida was the better team and didn't fall into the trap of trying to go end to end against Edmonton, in game seven, like they had in games four through six. They were more disciplined and Edmonton's best players couldn't get it done… or simply ran out of gas. Playing McDavid 25+ mins a night is going to wear him down and increase the risk of injury now that he's getting older.

  17. Edmonton was a very flawed team all year – super inconsistent. Goes on an incredible win streak and plays like the worst team in the league for streaks. They were actually in the middle and not championship material. They were not real contenders – this was a classic cinderella run. They got lucky against teams with injuries (Dallas and Vancouver) and went on one last run to force game 7 while Florida choked.

  18. Zero points in game 6 and 7. When McDavid gets back to the cup finals he won’t let that happen again. The GOATs show up in game 7s.
