  1. First of all, I think that the trophy should not be given out the same night as a cup celebration. Second, snubbing Bettman was warranted. However, that being said, what McDavid did was completely disrespectful. It was clear from his interview that he didn’t care that he even won the trophy, which is an insult to all the players before him who have. He dismissed it as basically “nothing”. Remember too, he’s had no problem accepting all of his other awards. It is still an absolute honor and huge achievement. I understand that he was devastated in that moment, and that he was thinking of his team, but what he was not thinking about was the message that this sends to all the young kids who idolize him. He’s sending the message out that unless you win it all it doesn’t count. All he had to do was come out to take a picture and shake hands and go. Numerous other players before him that were in the same position, did except the trophy with grace, despite how hard it was. That is what the sport is. Mental toughness is just as much a part of the game as physical talent. All of those fans who paid thousands of dollars to watch him play, all of those kids standing there with their cameras, waiting to celebrate that one little win with their idol. Was he thinking about them in that moment? Absolutely not! It had nothing to do with him not wanting to take away from the Panthers celebration, nor not wanting to have attention on his own singular achievement. It is very clear that he was not thinking in that moment, which I totally understand given the circumstances, however a true leader would have come out. He knew he was likely going to win so the argument that he was probably undressed already is weak at best. Once he has time to process, he will try to backpedal.

  2. Lets be real anyone claiming he was wrong for not going out would be calling him a terrible captain or selfish or something for going out to accept it. To McDavid haters everything he does is wrong and he can do no right.

  3. As much as I dislike McDavid, I have to say he was in a no-win situation. If he goes out and drags his trophy back, the haters are all over him, and if he doesn't, the same folks are jumping on him for being selfish. He elevated himself in my books and I'm not the kind to heap praise on a rival player from the Oilers.

  4. Oilers hater here, McDavid is fully valid for not coming out to accept the Conn Smythe.

  5. Mcdavid is leaving Edmonton..look in hos eyes even before game 7 loss there is no spark in his eyes anymore he looks soulless…pretty sure he is done and will request a trade out of Edmonton

  6. EXACTLY the kind of guy you want as captain. This was a team first move by McDavid.

    McDavid is all about the team, not personal accolades.

  7. As a player and a fan of the sport i respect him more for not accepting it. I wouldnt either and he a real captain

  8. It's been my opinion for a while now, that McDavid is actually a low-key, very selfish, narcissistic individual, and not leadership material. He's someone that doesn't respect the game or league as a whole. Also, leaders are outspoken, and not shy, quiet types who acts all "gosh golly gee" in all interviews. Gives of very much loner vibes.Sorry Oilers fans (I live near Edmonton), but you will not be making progress as a franchise with this type of cancer as your captain.

  9. The problem is not McDavid not accepting the award in person, he still gets it;

    The problem is the NHL is rigged to the core, Edmonton was told what to do and lose in 7 games. Nobody can tell me it's not rigged to the core, just like wrestling is. They had hats, t-shirts and even TV ads ready for the Panther victory less than 1 minute after the end of the game. It's all about the money, just about the money. There is no reason to give the Cup anywhere in Canada, as all the arenas are filled to capacity no matter what, not to mention the selling of memorabilia…

    The Cup went to Florida to support the market there, which when you look at, a good 1/3 of the stand where filled with Canadian(heck people in there sung O Canada louder than Alanis Morissette using the PA system) and/or Oilers fans. Let's not speak about sports bet… lots of people(in the know) made lots of money with betting on Oilers winning games 4-5-6 and losing game 7(cause they knew).

    Bettman is shaking like he has parkinson… because he knows the entire NHL is now just a scam, like that 1 billion they will take in from Utah.

    McDavid was told to stand down, just like Draisaitl(thus why he was a ghost during the entire final); why would he go out to shake the rigger's hand? The man still have honour, but prefers the money too…

  10. Mcdavid is a butthurt whiner. You accept the trophy like a man. No honor with these lame generations. Have a little humility.

  11. Not the least bit disrespectful. They were playing for the cup, that’s a team trophy and he is the captain of the team. They came up short and that’s all that matters.

  12. Mvp should never go to the losing team. I dont care how good they played. Your team lost. Big Bob had a shutout in game one and made numerous game saving plays in game 7 to limit Edmonton to only 1 goal. Also, where was Mcdavid last night?

  13. His team was there to win the CUP not the conn smythe !! Too many idiots looking for the perfect world who are NOT PERFECT THEMSELVES. The Oilers left themselves No margin for errors when they were down 0-3 — they did a great job pushing it to game 7.
