I’d be curious to see what long-term plans would be if Marner entered the picture. Skinner would have to go the other way, but how does it stifle upcoming contracts when Marner is coming off a 10 million dollar deal hoping to get paid?

Personally, I don’t want him. He’d be amazing on the ice, obviously, but:
1) I don’t want his next contract. e Especially when we already need to give Quinn, Peterka, Levi, Byram, and Benson all big raises in the next 3 years, and
2) I’m a bit concerned about him in the lockerroom. The Leafs have had accountability issues for years, and there have been loads of examples of Keefe needing to walk back criticism of the core four, especially Marner, because of hurt feelings. Being traded from his childhood team, I see two outcomes. The first is that he turns his rage about the trade into obscenely amazing on ice performance. The second is that he turns into Dubois and basically doesn’t give a shit on any team except the one he wants to play for.
