Emergency Pod! Jake Walman dealt to San Jose & Pavel Datsyuk elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame

WTF IS HAPPENING. The Red Wings made to two seperate trades today, moving out Jake Walman, Andrew Gibson and a 2nd round pick for Jeese Kiiskinen. Why? We are so confused. Another move has to be coming. Pavel Datsyuk has been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in his 1st eligible year, but Henrik Zetterberg has not. #lgrw

  1. I’m so tired of the word “prospects”. I want bonafide talent, not what COULD be talent. it’s very tiring. I liked Walman, he was with Seider when I met both of them at Meijer. That being said, if he’s going for a possible big move in the future, I’m okay with it.

  2. The more I think it I think there is something going on with Walman. I don't think this was just a salary cap dump. Something is going with Walman that we don't know about.

  3. Would be WILD, but Patrik Laine can't be traded until he gets out of treatment, so maybe the future considerations are part of that deal somehow?

  4. What about all the rumors that came out about him And larkin not getting along in the dressing room There was something that came out about wallman being insensitive when larkin and his wife lost the baby. I don't know if any of it's true but it makes sense. If this is the outcome

  5. There was a reason Walman wasn't playing enough down the stretch. Yzerman liked Walman, something went wrong with that love affair or Stevie has a cunning plan that we don't know about yet. Relax boys! There has to more to this story. Something is coming!

  6. If the Sharks wanted to trade down maybe the Red Wings wanted to make sure nobody jumped in front of them for their player. And the trade isn't finalized until the Sharks see if someone drops unexpectedly.

  7. All i know is Stevie has a plan, HOWEVER he better be working on something good because Red Wings fans are getting antsy with these moves and the time is NOOWWW to push forward!.. we've been sooo damn patient..

  8. Pretty obvious Walman has some demons in his life. This feels more like a Vrana situation.

  9. I wonder what any other future considerations deals look likr recently. That nay give a sense of understanding to what may cause the NHL to grant permission for the deal.

  10. Think it through kids. If the Sharks would only take Walman with an adder then there’s an issue with Walman we know nothing about. Yzerman is stingy, he’d never give up assets for nothing.

  11. The trade obviously had to happen. Seider and Raymond need deals, and that could eat a ton of cap space. Nobody wanted to give away any cap space, so Steve did the deal that would cost the team the smallest amount of value to free up the needed space to maybe make moves on July 1st. You talk about 30 million, but what is Seider and Raymond going to cost if they sign long term….. That could be close to 20 million. The cap is going up, and everyone knows it. The agents are pushing for big bucks coming out of these young stars elcs. Seider could be 8x 9.5m, and Raymond could be 8 x 9m, or it could be more. Guys that have done less in the NHL have gotten 7.5 – 8 million in the last few years. With the cap going up, don't be surprised if they get Matthews Marner money coming out of their elcs.

  12. what if this trade includes a trade swap for San Jose's 2nd pick in the first round or control of that pick for Detroit's 1st rounder? There is no way Yzerman gave up Jake Walman and his decent contract and had to give away a 2nd round pick to do it. Walman alone is a tradable asset. There has to be something else in play here.

  13. My thoughts on the matter. Really weird trade but it comes with a caveat. We Sign patty Kane prior to July 1st. The condition from SJ is if Stevie's guys there at 14 and he picks up his phone SJ swaps with us 14-15. Steep price for some flex on the blue line to accommodate Johansson and Simon, but if we get Kaner and Stevie gets his pick with some bonus insurance I'm all for it. LGRW

  14. I think it's very likely that Yzerman is targeting a high value player via trade. Maybe the SJ "future considerations" is them retaining salary on said player?

  15. I bet SJ and Nashville are working on a trade and this helps balance it out. (Yzerman clearly “won” the Nashville trade, but clearly “lost” the SJ trade? 🤔) I also wouldn’t be surprised if Yzerman is going after a D—maybe Trouba? 😂—and this is opens the door for that.

  16. I would still watch hockey, but the league would forever be a joke to me if Datsyuk wasn't a first ballot hall of famer. You can clearly see his influence on the league today. Many of the great players we have now have cited him as a player they watched closely.

  17. I honestly have no idea wtf Yzerman is thinking, I don’t like any of the moves he’s made so far this offseason. Unless a big trade is made soon that is.

  18. If Yzerman gets the 14th pick, he has a better chance to get his guy before the team with the 15th pick gets a chance to draft that guy. … … oh, wait, just a minute …🤪

  19. I feel like this trade is a place holder, deposit, for moving up on draft night… there has to be more than nothing here

  20. The only reason I can think of that Stevie Y would make that Walman trade is because he’s going all in on Guentzel and might have to have a bidding war with the LA Kings. Since dealing PLD to the Caps, the Kings have an additional 3 million in cap space, which sounds like a really close number to Jake Walkman’s salary

  21. Future considerations has to be San Jose eating salary on a future deal wings make otherwise this makes absolutely zero sense and an utter fail by yzerman

  22. I liked Walman–good character guy that complimented Seider very well. I think we'll all have this make sense in a few weeks. Part of this was to make room for Johannsen or to shed contract because something big is coming.

  23. I think it’s obvious Yzerman values Edvinsson and Johansson more than Walman and made room for them to play…but I know there’s more going on here and we’ll have to wait it out to see what’ll happen.

  24. Wals was a one that performed quite well under the winged wheel jersey. Don’t see how this trade makes sense. Holl and Czarnik should have been on chopping block before him.

  25. New subscriber here, been a wings fan since i can remember. I’m currently 24 years old & have no recollection of the wings winning a cup.

    LGRW!!

  26. Hoping the Walman trade gets us something, eventually. Great that Datsyuk was put into the HOF, of course not only Zetterberg snubbed, but once again Chris Osgood as well.

  27. Do not apologize for talking in circles because that is literally all I've been doing out loud since this news had come out. It really is just so hard to wrap my head around.

  28. Maybe the future consideration is that SJ takes Holl off waivers for us. Honestly, then the value of the trade makes sense. I think it's too early to judge this at the moment. There's something cooking.

  29. I think something happened behind the scenes when it comes to Walman and Stevie. Stevie keeps things quiet. Almost reminds me of the Vrana exit.

  30. i am thinking the walman and 2nd rounder for future considerations is for a tomorrow trade.. san jose got the 2nd cuz they will be sending likely walman at maybe half retained or another player on san jose will go to nashville or whereever… i seeing 2 1sts to nash plus husso's final year as well as a non roster prospect plus walman or whomever from SJ for Saros last year and Josi 34

  31. Heads up wings fans..There was a report 3-4 days ago (im forgetting by who at the moment but it was over twitter).

The report was : "im hearing kane wants to head back to the NYR and drury wants him back"

  32. This deal makes no sense. It was obvious that they needed to get rid of one of their D for their roster, with 8 active on the roster including Edvinson. Just not sure why they would be getting rid of one of their top 4 d to do it. If its to add another d, they will still have to move another and this move made their defense worse. I would put Jake at least one of their top 3 defenseman, with Seider and Edvinson. Maybe he just wasnt physical enough or their were other issues we dont know about. I agree with Brian, though. Wallman shouldnt be a guy u have to pay an asset to get rid of.

  33. ahem Jake Walman was not dealt for nothing. Jake Walman and a f***ing SECOND round pick were dealt for nothing

  34. I still have faith in Yzerman. That said, I think less of him today than I ever have and I feel kind of dirty about it. He must have just hated the gritty…
