If the New York Rangers want to strengthen their d-core this offseason in free agency former Calgary Flames defenseman Chris Tanev could be a great target for the team. The only issue with Tanev is the fact he normally plays on the right side and hasn’t played much on the left so Rangers would need him or Trouba to play on the left or possibly see Jacob traded/bought out.

Starts with addition by subtraction. Have to get rid of Trouba and his heinous contract. He's never been worthy of that contract, and it's been painful watching these coaches have to respect his cap hit on lineup decisions. If the plan is to incorporate Jones next year as a value piece, then i can easily see them moving on from Lindgren in order to get some more size on the back end. I love Lindgren's never say die, charlie hustle approach but he too is undersized and he's not a top pair guy.
Tanev is 34 … too old … Zadorov is the guy… Love Lindgren but he is going to go off on a stretcher someday and never come back. $5.5M is too much for Lindgren… $4.25 is too much for old Tanev (plus he is a little light for a physical dman). Zadorov will sign for ~ $4M and is an absolute monster 6'6" and 248lbs 29 years old. Rangers need physicality and with Trouba perhaps going and Lindgren as well Zadorov is the answer. Plus you don't want him going to the devils or islanders who are both eyeing him.
He's in demand, so he's going to be overpaid during FA. I would prefer to go with a guy like Zadorov, but we are going to have to trade away some guys which might be more difficult than we think.
