The Conn Smythe has turned into a participation/popularity trophy award.
It used to awarded to the player that put their stamp in the games that matter mostly to their teams like gm 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Don't get me wrong, Connor is a great player to watch, but he was not worthy to receive this award because didn't showed up to play for his team when it most matter. BOB showed up, Reinhart showed up, Verhaeghe showed up.
Everything you have in life is not because you "deserve" to have it. Is because you have earned it trough hard work, sweat, tears and sacrifice. If you don't show up for school you don't get to graduate no matter how intelligent you are.
He doesnt need a trophy to tell him hes the best… he has an entire district built just for him in the center of Edmonton.

As a Panthers fan, I think it's good that he got it AND that he didn't come out to hoist it. He's one of the best singular players in the league, but he just so happened to have to face the best whole team unit in the league. The reason Gretzky won the Cup with the Oilers is because Gretzky had an amazing team behind him, and all credit to the likes of Brown and Janmark, they proved the Oilers have some depth but it wasn't enough against the massive Panthers. GG Oilers, I'm sure you'll get to hoist the cup with Mac soon enough.
