CANUCKS TARGETING JEFF SKINNER? ANOTHER TOP SCORER TO VANCOUVER? Buffalo Sabres News

[Music] so yesterday morning we did make a video talking about the Buffalo Sabers and how they were on the cusp of buying out one of the most expensive and overpaid contracts in the NHL Jeff Skinner’s $9 million aav deal now to Skinner’s credit and we talked about this in the video yesterday but he’s been a pretty okay player like we went over all the numbers we had talked about the points we had talked about the on Ice metrics the even strength goal production the playmaking and everything in between Jeff Skinner is a fine hockey player who just happened to have 46 points in 74 games played last year after putting up a career high 82 points in 35 goals in 79 games played the year before Skinner may not be a $9 million caliber player but as a guy who can get 20 to 35 goals a year and maybe reach upwards of 60 70 80 points even if he gets lucky this is totally a player that is worth some money maybe just not $9 million a year kind of money and so when it comes to potential teams that might be interested in him I wanted to go out there and talk about this Twitter post made by the Donnie and Dolly folks from yesterday could Jeff Skinner be an option for the Vancouver canak if he’s bought out by the Sabers Rick Dolly wall talks about this sidorov and Joshua in our opening segment this was from yesterday’s edition of Donnie and Dolly and because it’s a video we’re going to leave a link in the description if you want to listen to the audio yourself but we’re also going to leave a link in the description of this article published on Canucks daily.com by Cooper Goden I like this article because it goes out there and transcribes the Rick Dolly wall quote makes it easier for us to screenshot it put it on the screen and follow along together so let’s go out there and read what Rick doly wall says about Jeff Skinner well we want to wait and see what happens Don and you’re correct Jeff Skinner the rumor is right now that he will be bought up by the Sabres he’s making close to $10 million a year but the Sabres want to free up some cap space and they want to go after some big names on the free agent Market he added now where it gets interesting with Skinner is that Jim Rutherford drafted him in Carolina in 2010 he’s 32 years old with 92 goals in the last 3 years he had a really bad 2 years and followed it up with 30 30 and 30 he had scored 40 goals 6 years ago this guy could be another option for Alias Pon the Canucks let’s be honest whether it’s a trade whether it’s July 1st they are looking high and low for a Winger for Pon so could it be Skinner Rutherford has a good read on this player he drafted Skinner and is trying to put two and two together so with this in mind you know I was actually playing NHL last night or last night it was it was last night by the time this video was uploaded on YouTube but for me personally talking in the microphone right now it was like 2 hours ago but I was suited up for Chell with the buds and one of my friends asked me hey like what are your thoughts on Jeff Skinner to the Vancouver Canucks and admittedly I didn’t really tune in too much to the Twitter sphere before we were talking about it so the idea of Skinner being a Vancouver Target if he were to be a bought out free agent at maybe 5 million 6 million bucks a year I was kind of like okay that’s actually a pretty good name I mean I like to say that I’m one of the bigger Believers in Jeff Skinner in his game because I had him in fantasy back in high school and I always kind of appreciated his game since then but even during the bad years Jeff Skinner was a $9 million guy who was only scoring 14 points in a 53 game sample he had a really bad stretch in Buffalo where that contract was seen as an absolute Nightmare before he exploded with his 82o season in 22 23 and his 60-point season in 2122 Jeff Skinner has gone through the ringer of ups and downs and being in a bad spot and bouncing back and actually being productive and working with the other Buffalo Sabers stars to get points like Tage Thompson like Alex tuck like the Victor Olson’s and the middle stads and the doin sure a lot of these guys aren’t there anymore but still Jeff Skinner is a name that has proven time and time again that he still has what it takes to be a competent top six six scoring NHL player from his time in Carolina to his time in Buffalo the connection with Jim Rutherford is interesting because we’ve known that those connections really do mean something we saw Rutherford and Alvine going after all of the old Pittsburgh Penguins over the years Casey to Smith Sam laferty Ian Cole Jake gensel now too so could that philosophy apply as far back as the Carolina days we know that the opposite is true Jim Rutherford traded Brandon Sutter away twice I’m pretty sure or was there a third time in there no I’m misremembering that but Jim Rutherford is not afraid to revisit success stories of his past and Jeff Skinner could very well be one of those guys I mean Jeff Skinner when he was a Carolina hurricane immediately popped off on the scene with a 30 goal 60 point season immediately after getting drafted I mean he was great early on in his career and nowadays while Jeff Skinner may not be the best defensively he does not play well in his own Zone and off the puck he is an offensive Dynamo that can create some really good opportunities for his teammates and he can put the puck in the back of the net too give him some time give him some space honestly I see a lot of the Vintage Brock besser in what we’ve seen out of Jeff Skinner these past few years maybe not as Dynamic but still sort of in that similar mold where Skinner can just walk in and snipe a goal if he has the space he can set himself up for one T’s he’s a very versatile offensive contributor and and that’s the kind of guy that I think if Alias Pon is playing with him you could have some pretty good success we had just seen the Vancouver canox trade away Elia M with some salary retained so the team is opening up some money if they’re not able to get Jake gensel if they’re not able to sign him to a $9 million contract they get out bid by some other team that wants him more then maybe Jeff Skinner could be a nice retaliation prize who really knows Heck if the Vancouver Canucks are able to free up even more money they get some of these other guys signed but they lose out on some of the more expensive pieces that they could bring back they don’t sign Zadora they don’t sign Joshua of course they let lindol go if they have enough money why not go out there and Target two of these top forwards in the 24 free agency class Jake gensel and Jeff Skinner or try to make a trade for somebody else with salary retained or whatever like obviously the options are Limitless when you have money but the Vancouver Canucks will need to do some serious heavy lifting with their salary cap structure if they wanted to explore getting multiple top tier forwards but either way if it’s not Jake gensel could Jeff Skinner be that guy if you wanted to go cheaper do you do Skinner and Tyler tooli I don’t know about you but if the Vancouver Canucks have a top six of Pon to Foley hoglander Miller besser and Jeff Skinner and I really like that have the Dakota Joshua replacement BP a Suitor and have him skate with bler and Garland and then on the forest line you could have P Coen and whomever else Neil Oman or whatever there are a lot of options that could bring themselves up if the Canucks use their money on some cheaper dudes or if they’re not able to get any of the top tier guys and have to settle for a little bit less so let me know your thoughts in the comment section below if Jeff Skinner does become a free agent on the market what are your opinions about the Vancouver Canucks potentially being a team that looks to get his services on their squad is this a name that you’re interested in if you are a Vancouver Canucks fan for me personally there’s a big enough argument that says it would be a good idea but of course the comment section on YouTube exists for a reason I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below Skinner Vancouver yay or nay if you’re a Buffalo Sabers fan what do you have to say about this guy and what extra thoughts do you have about him that you feel should be noted here we’re expansion Bros right Vancouver Buffalo 1970 first NHL season there’s a little bit of a connection there so I think it would be nice to see that manifest itself in some positive and friendly discussion online let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about the idea of Jeff Skinner over to the KX I hope you enjoyed this v99 and bye [Music] [Music]

  1. If they retained 25% of his salary it would be a decent deal for both sides.
His salary drops to $7M and $5M in the last two years.
