  1. “As we stand here right now, we haven’t been able to reach an agreement yet. I don’t know if we will be able to reach an agreement but we met with Steven’s agent again yesterday and both sides are still interested in getting a deal done but we have not been able to agree to terms that are satisfactory for both sides. I think, at this time, it’s probably best if I leave my comments to that for the time being.”

Jeez just get it done JBB.

Good news is it sounds like Hedman’s made good progress on his contract.

  3. dolewhiplash

Need him to stop yapping and start clearing cap space. I think a lot more people would be sympathetic to how difficult negotiations are with the cap space we have if Conor Sheary wasn’t still on this team.

  4. AceShipDriver

JBB is gonna stand for Just a Big Bonehead if he doesn’t sign Stammer.

  5. KILLER_IF

Rip. Vinny, St Louis, and now maybe Stammer. Still holding out for hope, but those comments dont seem good. Seems like the one thing we havent been able to do is keep our captains/best players

  6. It’s pretty obvious other teams can offer more money. It’s up to Stammer if he wants to take another cut to stay.

  7. HockeyRules9186

It’s all about money. Everyone one here is bitching and moaning about a 2mil contract. Current cap space is 5.4 mil. Minimum 4 players to sign to have 13 forwards, 7 D. If stammers looking for north of 5.5 with term he’s gone. If your dumping Sheary your looking to also fill that position.
Only one option available move Sergachev and get the 8.5 for cap relief. The. You can be foolish and give him a 5/6 year contract at his requested price of 7+ mil.

I’ll be honest with you lot, if they let stamkos walk I won’t be watching a single game this season.

The org surely won’t miss one viewer, but whatever.

  9. BuildingLess1814

Stamkos is 100% gone. We’re too far gone with the cap.

Sucks, but we have to move on and rebuild around Point and promote either Hedman or Kucherov as the Captain.

  10. rhodesleadnowhere

Why are we playing hardball with our Captain? This is disgraceful. The man is a saint!

  11. Is JBB can’t keep Stamkos and we brought Mac back I think it’s time to start questioning his moves.

  12. BanditPixy

If we can’t re-sign stammer then I think it’s time to question what the fuck JBB is doing. Stamkos is supposed to be a franchise player

  13. False_Rhythms

Sadly he might need to walk to move the team forward. We can overpay for the face of the team that is unfortunately over the hill and in the decline era of his career or pay him and be mediocre. It’s a shit sandwich.

  14. KingKasby

F to pay respects to our beloved captain and best player in franchise history.

  15. LeanMrfuzzles

But…but… he said we had the cap space to sign him…

  16. BrolexRolex

Never been more sick to my stomach after reading something in my life

  17. Deadbolt2023

“Love your team – just don’t expect your team to love you back”

Not my line, but I’m reminded of it in times like this…

  18. Throwaway_PA717

Pouring a bud lightning out for the Cap. This sucks

  19. Boltsforlife2022

Wouldn’t be surprised if Vinik actually stepped in here and said get it done. Would be out of character for him but this is a big one.

Let me preface this by saying I want the team to re-sign Stamkos. Full stop.

However, everyone saying JBB is a “clown” or some derivative is not being intellectually honest. JBB has helped the Ligtning assemble teams that led us to 3 straight cup appearances and since 2010 (when he was hired) the Lightning have made the playoffs 11 out of 15 seasons and incredibly have only missed a playoff cutoff once in the last 11 seasons! Surely JBB deserves some credit for that.

I think JBB is focused on sustained success and while he probably WANTS to sign Stamkos as much as the rest of us do, the goal of a club is to WIN. This situation with Stamkos is a very tricky and emotional situation. Tons of teams can probably come to the table with more money, but if JBB is focused on winning, paying Stamkos a premium based on what he can get on the open market isn’t a sound decision financially – an exercise in poor fiduciary responsibility that JBB owes the club.

That said, JBB GET THIS SHIT DONE!!! THE FANS WANT THIS MAN TO RETIRE IN TAMPA!!!
