At first I thought Stammer was asking 8 mil plus from us, how do offer him THAT low.

  1. If this is accurate, I have no words.

At $4-5m AAV there is zero excuse to not get a deal done.

  2. It’s a long term deal, it’s basically just cap circumvention. The idea is to pay him close to what he makes on an 8mx4y, which is probably his peak offer in UFA. He just forfeits a small amount (~775k) each year he doesn’t play. It’s a front loaded lockout protected deal, the same type suggested during the Hanifin saga.

If this is true and JBB lets him walk he should be fired Im sorry. I was in the same boat expecting him to be wanting like 6-7, but this is just unbelievable

  4. MonarchChonarch

So we’re offering $3×8 and he wants a $4.5×5? If that’s the case and JBB can’t get it done, I seriously think that Vinik needs to *at least* consider firing JBB

  5. SignalDragonfly690

I don’t see how $4-$5 million is unreasonable. Get it together, JBB.

  6. Enough-Register5313

If he walks and there’s not even one move made to clear more cap space then we riot

  7. Get rid of Sheary and/or Jeannot and see if the prospects can step up. Come on JBB

  8. Quaint_Potato

I really hope this isn’t the case. I really doubt JBB is that dumb.

  9. Gwendolyn1994

So are they still talking it out???? Pls update me 🙁 I’m shaking here.

  10. tobysicks

Fuck JBB and the lightning if this is true. Pretty fucking shitty way to treat your best player who has already taken a pay cut

  11. BanditPixy

That’s what we are offering him? Are you fucking kidding me

  12. Patreonlyfans

That’s probably the best deal we can offer at this moment before any moves are made. Let’s see what July does.

  13. Bolts_Big_Cat

Losing the face of your franchise for THIS is definitely not a good look. If they don’t get this done before the 1st someone else is definitely going to swoop in and pay him 6m+ aav.

If this turns out to be legit? I don’t even know where to begin on the things I’ll be saying about JBB and the front office.

  14. surfacep17

This makes no sense. He scored 40 goals this past year, your captain and a franchise legend. I can easily see him worth $7-8 mil per year for 3 maybe 4 years. I get the salary cap issue. If anything less is being discussed, its an easy deal.

Maybe $6 mil for 4 years or $5 mil for 6 years?

  15. Allen_Koholic

If Stamkos signed a 6×4.5M, I’d be over the moon. There’s zero reason to no land this deal.

  16. Basil_Normal

If this is true and Stamkos walks, JBB better have a big signing to announce on Monday to fill that cap space up. Like Guentzel big. Letting Stamkos walk and filling in with a third liner or two won’t cut it.

3×8 is an embarrassing offer. If Stamkos only wants 4.5 or 5, that’s beyond extremely reasonable. If JBB wants to go in a different direction from a hockey side, I can understand and respect that. But he needs to deliver something noteworthy

  17. OppositeSolution642

So, they can pay Cirelli 6.5 and Stammer is only worth 3? You have to be kidding me. I don’t blame him at all if he leaves. He’s always been team friendly with his contacts. JBB will be out after next season.

  18. Hunsburglar

I fully understand why Stamkos’ agent is leaking this.

Are you kidding me Julien? I get why you made this play on Killorn, it was the only way it made sense to keep him and you might as well give it a shot. But Stamkos is not the guy you try this on. He’s the face of the franchise, best player in team history, two time cup winning captain. I know he’s getting up there in age and isn’t the best 5on5, but he still put up 40 goals and 40 assists.

Are you really going to let Stamkos walk because you wouldn’t give him 4-5 mil? You’ve lost me.

I assume you would need Vinik’s okay to trade Stamkos, so how would he feel about letting him walk over a cap hit? I am not someone who likes an owner who is overbearing on their team, but if this is true Vinik needs to step in.

  19. andrewthemexican

To me, this seems like actually a positive sign we’ll have another July 1st deal. Numbers seem close enough to assume a deal gets done.

  20. Lightning_Octopus21

Its fucking bullshit. We could give him 4.5 million for 4 years easily and still have money to sign a league minimum. I’m livid right now. I also thought he wanted like 7 million.

    This is so stupid.

  21. I really thought this was going to be an issue of stammer wanting around 8m aav and JBB offering 6m aav. This is insane if true. JBB needs to be run out of town if he can’t offer 5m aav.

  22. Pinellas_swngr

I don’t know much about Jeff Vinik’s ownership style. How much freedom does he give JBB?

  23. BrolexRolex

I truly hate to say it but the guy just needs to take the L on the Jeannot trade or Sheary signing and do something about them to get that extra 1M in space he “can’t seem to find.”

  24. They want to give this man, the heart and soul of our team Conner Sheray money, that’s b*******

  25. Athletic article says he’s guessing these numbers. Have they been confirmed?

  26. Brittle_Bones_Bishop

If accurate unacceptable on JBB’s side this should’ve been done.

  27. MmmmCrispyBacon

This post is misleading, it’s 100% speculation by Pierre. That being said, if it turns out to be correct I think Brise loses a lot of respect and trust from fans and team alike. Would be a terrible look.

  28. likeslululemon

Somebody wake me up when Stamkos signs with us :/ I can’t handle this.

  29. JBB, if this is true, so help me god I will fire you out of the cannon in Rayjay personally.

$3m is an insult to our captain.

  30. It’s a negotiation people. All this talk about firing JBB is ridiculous. If they’re only off by 1-1.5m a year, this is a GOOD thing.
