[LeBrun] The Preds have received numerous calls on goalie Askarov in the last 24 hours following the Saros extension news. The Preds are willing to move him but have set a high price they feel is warranted. Nashville would like to move into the top 5 of the first round tonight via an Askarov trade.

My take on this is that a top 5 pick is wild, so Trotz is basically saying “we aren’t trading him unless someone is going to overpay for him” which is fine by me. I think Askarov has great potential but if he can net us a top 5 pick somehow, I think that’s totally worth it

Columbus wants to move on from Elvis, but apparently their ask for 4OA has been damn hefty.

We have 0 reason to rush move him now with a Saros extension to be announced. We just got the goalie whisperer back in the house, Askarov is only going to get better. I like this hard line from Trotz. Who ever bites might have to rename the barn the Trotz Memorial Coliseum if that’s what he wants.

Fair enough. “You want him? Come and get him”

Call us….let’s talk. Whatcha got to offah?

Lankinen played very well when called upon this year. With Mitch back in the picture, a cash out on Asky isn’t crazy at all.

All I know is, if we don’t bring Askarov up to be a 1A, 1B as Saros gets older, this new contract is going to become an anchor and Askarov will walk. Sure Saros can start the first few seasons, but it needs to become a 1A, 1B

Moving him is the smart decision. Saros will be able to hold down goal competently for a few more years. There’s bigger holes in the team that need to be worked out, and if askarov being traded does that, fine.

I kept hearing how Askarov was the next Pekka Rinne. How he was a generational talent. The same thing I heard about Eeli Tolvanen. Are we bad at player development or scouting? Because it kinda sucks to look forward to a player that isn’t gonna be a part of the future.
