26 year old LW with limited NHL experience for a 2nd? Jeebus. Someone fill me in on what Kev is thinking here
ScotiaTailwagger
It’s something. 6 goals and 21 points in this first full season with Washington last year. 4th liner. Probably a Girgensons replacement. Not sure how much I like trading a 2nd for a 5th rounder in 2016 but shrug.
craiggles08
Sounds like a bittom six defensive forward..new girgonsons.
serious_man_13
No idea who this guy is.
Drizzy_Drew
I’m sorry, but what the fuck? A 2nd round pick for a 26 year old with 24 career points? Washington gets Mangiapane for a 2nd and the Sabres get….Beck Malenstyn?!
SomeSabresFan
There’s the beef for the 3rd and/or 4th line. Should appease the “we’re too small and weak” crowd while giving us a defensively sound forward to assist on the penalty kill
edit-the-sad-parts
How the fuck did that cost a second
FallOutShelterBoy
Well he won the WHL championship and the Calder Cup so he’s gotta know something about winning, right? Right??
JimmyMcNultyKU
Feel like this is a role addressed in free agency. Why bother trading an asset for a generic easy to find profile?
buffa_noles
I don’t mind overpaying for physicality when physicality is our biggest weakness
bustthelease
Looks like a very good 4th liner. 2nd round pick looks rich for him. Would have preferred a lower pick.
He dose address a need and will make the 4th line better. I’m ok with this if he plays well.
3rdEyeJoker
People will overreact cause it is what it is, but sounds like physical defensive forward for our bottom 6
Same_Dot9698
Beck the check? This guy was destroying the Amerks in the Conference finals 2 seasons ago. I’m on board with this trade. Guy hits anything that moves.
OpabiniaGlasses
Guys who ~~want~~ have no choice but to be here
Musclesmagoo51
This has got to be a Girgs replacement. If you pair him on the 4th with Greenway and Krebs, you get an old school Lindy 4th line.
Krebs – Kaleta Greenway – Peters Beck – Mair
slightlyuglyboss
Price seems a bit high tbh. Hopeful GMKA/the analytics teams knows something we dont
JpLosman
Love reading the keyboard GM hot takes. Keep it up people
Epik5
This is what I don’t understand, spend a 2nd for a grinder when we could easily pick up anyone for that role or just put a drafted player in that role with more upside.
evdrebot
Sounds like we added some beef to the team. Hope he has some of that nasty this team desperately needs.
JimmyMcNultyKU
Caps got Mangiapane and picked a second back up for Malenstyn….
Albi77
This is wild

Karma finally gets us for trading Gaustad to Nashville for that first round pick years ago.
rejecttheHo
This just reeks of desperation
“Oh shit we couldn’t find a trade partner last night so we better trade a 2nd today. It doesn’t matter for who”
The thought of trading for a player like Beck (for a 4th or 5th or later is a fine concept) and the thought of trading a 2nd (for a much better player than Beck) is fine and Buffalo needs that. But wow that is expensive and doesn’t really move the needle much
ImEmbers
Im not super upset becauae we traded down to get this pick and still got out guy so in the grand scheme of things its basically free? Im not coping, you are!
Backwoods_84
Yesterday, everyone was fine with over paying to make a trade….today everyone is mad.
If they decided he can help the team and is better than the Eric Robinsons of the world, then I support it. No second round pick was going to be playing for the sabres for at least 2 years
Straight_Landscape37
Here’s that grit you guys were asking for
Beechsack
Girgensons replacement.
Right now using picks for players that can fill holes NOW makes more sense than adding more prospects that might be helpful in 3-4 years. Even if you are overpaying a little.
suchadu
I checked out the Caps sub bc I admittedly know nothing about this guy. They all seem to understand it was a good deal but they’re mostly disappointed to see him go. There are a lot of comments about his hustle and care level. I wish this was a third considering the Caps got Mangiapane for an even later second but he sounds like a piece we’ve needed.
t800rad
*shrug* I find it hard to get angry about using a second rounder in a weak draft to fill a need, especially when we had the one right before it.
994kk1
Basically the same cost as Jeannot. Welp…
dcheco
A 2nd for a 4th liner when better players have gone for similar. GMKA sucks
czupek
Never ever heard of this guy
Material_Mall_5359
I’ll be rooting for this dude but man no-trade lists really keep good teams good and bad teams bad
helikoopter
Hahaha
Well, at least he’s fast?
When I said that Adams needed to acquire speed, I wasn’t referring to talentless players with speed. Those guys are generally free for the taking throughout the year.
Green_hippo17
There’s gotta be like another thing to this uh cause the fuck
here4thememes420
Caps fan here. Not exactly worth a 2nd IMO but Beck moves fast and is a hard checking forward. He played most of last season and was a part of the Wash 4th line which was arguably our best last year (sad). Beck is a solid checking forward even if a bit underwhelming
KimJohnChill
This is a good trade, he’s a strong bottom six player that shows the consistent level of effort we have needed.
