Anyone Else Kinda Sad About Troubs?

Not saying it’s not time to move on. I know we need the cap space. And I know he didn’t have his best season and was a liability at times in the playoffs. All these things are true.

But the last few years before this season he was a true Ranger. Love his old school style. Obviously very respected in the locker room.

I always defended him in other subs when people called him dirty. He had a couple questionable hits this year but prior to that his hits were all legal good clean hard hits and there was always an over reaction around the league. I felt he was unfairly targeted by other fans.

Anyway I just wanted to say that I really appreciate Trouba, I am glad he was here for a while, and I hope he is happy wherever he is next season.

  1. It’s always the name on the front of the sweater, never the name on the back.

Thanks for your service. Let’s go Rangers.

  2. zucarigan

He’s a good dude. I’m sure he’ll be a fan favorite wherever he goes. He’ll make some big plays and be a good teammate.

Personally I’m over it. Any regrets I have about Trouba as a person or a player are vastly overshadowed by the wasted opportunity of another year down the drain, due significantly to his inability to play his position. Especially when you factor in his cap hit. His presence on this team is a massive anchor if we want any real playoff success.

The human side of this situation sucks, but the needs of the team come first. I’m sure he’ll understand.

Honestly yeah. People have short memories in sports. Obv he kinda fucked us in the playoffs but he was a pretty pivotal player in the regular season. Not saying he was great but he was all in as a player at some key times, whether it was just a ballsy defensive play or a signature hit. Also, does anyone here remember the helmet throw? Shit like that matters.

His contract is completely indefensible so no regrets, but lets have some respect for our fucking captain!

  4. TheSasukeDive

I always feel players who have high salaries will always be held to higher standards. Once they don’t perform as expected they are almost always dealt. Trouba probably understands, he’s probably won’t be comfortable with it but he should understand

  5. geographyofnowhere

I like Trouba alot as a person and a player so it sucks that he has a poison contract. I think the team benefits from his toughness and leadership, etc.

But I was thinking that him playing through it in the playoffs was a mistake. It’s incredible feat toughing it out playing through a broken ankle or whatever but why did we have to do that when we were scratching viable defenders? Go day to day and call up Jones for a game, don’t flail on the biggest stage because you’re hurt.

Between him and even Fox it was tough to watch them play in such a diminished way

  6. Krispyford

Trouba the person seems to be a stand up guy and a good dude. Trouba the hockey player is overpaid for his current level of play.

This is a business decision, not a personal decision. The team and the front office really like him (and so do I). But he makes too much money and his contract allows him to be traded.

The reason his contract switched over to a MNTC at this point is for this exact reason. It’s a way out for the team if his cap hit becomes too high for his on ice value as he ages.

It’s the same reason Kreider is able to be traded now. The difference is Kreider got better as he got older and Trouba didn’t. The Kreider contract looks like a steal now.

  7. AdventurousNecessary

He came over and brought a toughness and physicality we had needed forever. If his contract wasn’t as big as it it, we probably aren’t thinking of moving him, but that contract has become a problem relative to his performance

  8. ConcentrateFlat3176

I respect him as a person and the way he plays so much. I hope he stays but I understand if he doesn’t.

I will be sad to see him go, if he does, but I love the way he represented the rangers and I think he is a great, caring human being

  9. ayykitten

As stated here, he seems like a really good guy and a standup teammate. He is (or perhaps soon to be was) the captain of the team for a reason, and seems like an extremely caring and giving and genuine person.

Hockey wise, no, not really saddened by it. We shipped McDonagh off to Tampa and he’s an incredible defensive defenseman. Trouba makes a lot of bonehead decisions that you could theoretically live with if he was making less money, but the unfortunate part of sports is; he’s making way too much and making terrible decisions at times when scrutiny is magnified.

    Wish him the best regardless.

  10. nine11airlines

I bought a trouble jersey this year and will probably continue to wear it any time we play the penguins

  11. RhythmTimeDivision

Probably universal agreement that he should go – but that’s not what you’re asking.

I appreciated the fact that he would throw the big check that really pissed off the entire fuckin’ league. For years, the Rangers were the pissed off team, or what felt to me like the pissed on team. I hated having a soft, puss team and it all culminated in “The Wilson Incident” that reworked the entire organization.

Trouba brought it, I liked that. Yeah, sad to see him go.

  12. lionson76

As a player, no. As a human being, yeah a little. While I don’t think Trouba and his wife would mind going home, they both really committed to being active in the community and becoming New Yorkers. Off the ice, Trouba (and his wife Kelly) are great members of the Rangers family. On the ice, he kinda has to go if we’re gonna have a real chance to build a Cup-winning team.

  13. Juggernaut99

great ranger. had a very good run here. some great moments but we can upgrade get younger and save money if we can make this move. at this point im good to let him go

  14. I mean… No. He makes $8 million a year. I’m not getting weepy over anyone like that.

Seems he’s a great guy who teammates love and respect. But his on-ice performance is nowhere near good enough for the money, and I’m by far most concerned with the on-ice product, and the diagonal letters across the chest, not the ones on the back.

  15. Markreed1963

100 % agree. I wanted him as captain and I will be sad to see him ago. I understand his contract is bad (a long standing Ranger tradition) and he has to be moved. Hopefully we don’t miss having a hammer.

  16. dickeybarret

I’m sure if he was making 2-3mil and stapled to the 3D it wouldn’t have been an issue. However even during the season he was hurting the team (they played better when he was out of the lineup, Key played substantially better when he was off that pairing for example). Sure he’s a great guy, but if you’re not helping the team win, and in some cases, actively helping them lose games….it’s time to go.

  17. IceTheChilled

Nope. Was always a doofus and played like one as well.

  18. jkman61494

He’s being paid Adam Fox money to play like Chad Rugwedhl. Bye

  19. His contract sucks. But as a player I love him. If he was getting paid closer to his on-ice value we’d love to still have him. Same with Goodrow.

Absolutely agree with the sentiment of this post though. Trouba has been a true Ranger and a great captain in his time here.

  20. He’s caused me lots of pain when watching so no

  21. BeastMcBeastly

I feel like there’s a big disconnect between fans that are fans of the players as people and fans that are mini-GMs/coaches. Trouba is the captain for a reason, and Messier gave him that dumb award for a reason. He’s clearly a positive locker-room presence, and as a fan I think he’s easy to root for. My dad knows almost nothing about hockey and he was so impressed by his leadership and him playing through a broken ankle.

Hopefully Trouba lands on a good team and can just give his vet presence from a 2nd or 3rd line somewhere. I’ll remember his time here fondly.

  22. Key-Tip-7521

Not really. If he didnt have that horrible contract, he’d probably would stay. His hits are clean, and sometimes wakes the team up. But, at the end of the day, it’s a business. But the more important thing is, assuming he’s traded, who’s the replacement the Rangers would look into getting? that’s the real question

  23. Better_Flatworm_3478

Yeah I am on a lot of levels. The second he leaves the team gets softer and easier to play against. None of the names I m hearing (Kane, stamkos,Zegras, skinner) are going to make the rangers bigger, stronger, faster. Every name we are tied to is slower, older, skill players. But nothing has happened yet so it’s all smoke. I d be fine running a team out next year that has #8 as the 3rd pair D . It’s a long season and shit happens

  24. Pale-Many-1999

Absolutely. One of the only on the team to do the dirty work when needed. Only Dman that hits hard. Was he the best they ever had, no, not by far, but he served well. Yes, time to move on. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a good year or 2 with a good team once he is fully healthy.

  25. ManOfTheHilll

He was my favorite during the 2022 run. I’ll miss his efforts. Time goes on though

  26. BeesVBeads

Guy seems like a great dude and is a good player but the reality of the post-covid cap means we have to make hard decisions if we want to win. I wish there was some kind of option we could give him to restructure his contract because he seems like the kind of guy who might take a cut to stay here but that’s not the case.

  27. If he decides to go into coaching one day I think he’d be an excellent Rangers coach

  28. LostByMonsters

Sad because he seems like a great dude that was all in as a ranger but at the same time, his play looked problematic this post season.
