  1. McDavid style is totally different than Wayne Gretzky… u cannot compare the two… Gretzky was a "little" man – by hockey standards… MCDAVID is NOT! McDavid is the NEXT Lemieux – not the next Gretzky

  2. Whoever says that "it's different eras" IS correct in EVERY sport including hockey.
Easiest sport to understand this is Track. Guys just keep getting faster and faster and guys keep getting better skills in all sports.
Take the NFL football, the best NFL teams in the 30s and 40s would not probably even beat any of the top 25 collage teams let alone the worst NFL team's of today. Offensive lineman routinely weigh 300 lbs and more. They would knock defensive linemen playing in the 30s, the avg would of been about 220 lbs into secondary and the speed of today's WRs compared to back then, they would just run away from DBs like a teen
running away from a 5 year old brother, never catch him.
You have offensive lineman today running as fast as running backs did in the 60s and bench pressing 400 lbs and more.
Forget about it. You just can't compare eras much over 20 years, let alone 30 or more.

  3. McDavid is definitely a top 10 player all time in my eyes and may be the most talented hockey player all time. But Shohei Ohtani may give him some run as best athlete currently. If Shohei pitches again, I still think what he does is hard to top by anyone in terms of most talented or impressive. And I’m not even a Shohei fan boy. I was hard in favor of Judge for MVP in 2022. And I think you can be better or more valuable than Shohei. But no one does anything more impressive or athletically talented than pitching and hitting.

  4. The numbers that Gretzky put up are impossible in today's NHL. McDavid is better than Gretzky.

  5. He’s the best player of all time and one of the best athletes of all time. Greatest player ever in the sport of hockey? No. Have to win a lot of Cups.

  6. We will all find out when mcdavid looses his speed and will have to rely on his hockey IQ …. He’s definitely better than Gretzky… he’s a Gretzky with better speed skills skating … his hockey iq alone will win him cups

  7. Mcdavids been better than Gretzky for a while now, it’s insane how hard Gretzky is glazed, go watch some highlights and tell me that’s your goat, dude legit couldn’t hold a 4 liners jockstrap today, hell he would probably get shit on in the AHL today… there’s AHL teams now that would beat the dogshit out of NHL teams from even 25 years ago

  8. It's so difficult to make these comparisons with so many years between their careers. What a treat for Edmonton fans to have had them both in their primes. Some will argue it was easier to score in 99's era, but he was a completely cerebral player at at time when goons still lurked in the corners. He may have been even better in today's game with better fitness training ideas, better sticks etc. Who knows. They are both fun to watch.

  9. He reminds more of Mario with the size/speed combo…..
But I always thought Mario was better than Wayne too lol

  10. Mario was even more dominant than Gretz. His career was cut short though. Oilers fan btw. GOAT discussion is always interesting though. Neither of those guys though could do the things Connor does at the speed he does it at (stick handling ect) and Conor's skating is arguably the best we have ever seen. All three of these players think the game at a very high level, Gretz, Connor, Mario in that order when it came to hockey IQ.
