Surprising to me to see Kris’s coaching style be what it is. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but the way his post-game speeches all tended to revolve around enjoying themselves and having fun just wasn’t what I expected from a professional coach (who by all accounts really turned the oiler’s season around, for that matter as well). His demeanor reminded me quite a bit of the coaches I had when I was a kid— I had always assumed that my coaches back then were just trying to put a smile on the kids face’s since we were kids after all, but now I wonder if there’s a more legitimate/competitive reason as to why my coaches back then were so demandingly upbeat.
Panthers fan, oilers’ coach speech when they were down 3-0 about the hardest 10 days + having fun is master class motivation, hopefully he’s in the NHL for a while, seems like a great guy to play for
The Oilers were taking cheap shots and playing dirty all series long. McDavid and Dreiseitl punching players repeatedly in the face after play was stopped and guys were separated, and not once did they get a penalty called on them. On top of that, Barkov gets elbowed in the head with Dreisaitl leaping in the air, and only a 2-minute minor was called. Same game one of our dudes takes a nut shot from a stick between the legs by Dreiseitl and no penalty is called.
Then in game 4, they try to take out Bennett with another cheap knee on knee hit. The guy made a bee line for Sam and fells him. Even both of the NHL rules experts on the telecast said that it was more egregious than the one from game 2, and that it should warrant an ejection, and the refs instead just call a 2-minute minor. A horrible call that shifts the momentum of the series, as the Panthers should’ve had a 5-minute major penalty against the Oilers and a game misconduct should have been given to Nurse.
It’s comical that they show Knoblauch, McDavid and Dreiseitl constantly complaining when they were playing bush league hockey all series long.
I'm a Golden Knights fan but, the way the Panthers played last year, made me a fan. Since VGK did not make it, I wanted the Panthers to win. They nearly gave me a stroke in Game 7. These guys climbed their way back to the top and made it happened. I'm so proud of them.
