  1. Alain is a Rogers employee who works at 680 NewsRadio Toronto. There’s no reason to think he *wouldn’t* have sources, even if it’s news we don’t want to hear.

This comes a day after Dreger (mouthpiece for the Leafs organization) [was talking about how Treveling is going to target Tanev and Zadorov hard in free agency](https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/latest-news/report-maple-leafs-targeting-pending-unrestricted-free-agents-chris-tanev-and-nikita-zadorov-to-reinforce-blueline).

Sounds like Treveling is willing to overpay on value and term to get them back. He’s just building Calgary’s roster in Toronto again.

Not too surprising given Treliving signed Tanev when he left Vancouver originally.

Tanev gets the bag and gets to play his final years in his hometown? Honestly I think that sounds great for Tanev. He’ll finally get the media attention he deserves for how good he’s been all his career. He also likely screws Torontos cap situation further.

So we’re just going to get nobody?

I am very not confident with Soucy-Myers as the second pairing going into next season.

Things are shaping up for the team to give a defenseman that’s not worth it too much money + term.

Getting more and more likely we are going to see a run it back type of team, with all of the rumours that the people we are targeting are already earmarked for other teams.

That being said, anything can happen, of course.

He will be on the LTIR playing for the leaves.

  7. We have all seen how good Rutherford, Allvin, Castognay, and Granato are at identifying and securing talent via signings and trades. Let’s give them until 2 or 3 July to see what they cook up before we get too worried about the sky falling. Their track record suggests that they will make things happen.

I’m happy for tanev. I will only be upset if he signs for under 3.5 million. But changes are. He is getting 4+ after his playoffs. And frankly, I get concerned with his injury history and not sure I’d want to commit that much.

  9. thesunsetflip

Been waiting on that one for like a decade

  10. BriscoCounty83

I mean Tanev is from Toronto and at his age getting 1 last contract close to home is quite appealing.

  11. what happen to “vancouver is becoming the premier destination for ufas”

  12. ForceEconomy9988

It aint over til its over. Havent given up on him or Zadorov. Remember Hamhuis’ rights were traded twice before he signed with us

  13. Small-Wolverine-7166

Does having Taney now before July 1 allow them to sign him for an extra year (8) vs 7? Would this allow him to spread his salary out over a longer term and allow his AAV to be lower?

  14. LabApprehensive5666

The leafs just don’t get it eh? The dude will be 35 years old this year is he really going to be beneficial for a deep playoff off run? Highly doubt it

  15. dattroll123

remember when dim jimbo let this guy walk to UFA at the prime of his career? Didn’t even bother to trade his rights lol.

that being said, loleafs if they sign him to 5+ years.

  16. Legitimate_Elk4743

So the Leafs Cup windows is down to it’s final two years before a complete rebuild🙄

  17. Come on Tanev , why would you sign with the Leafs. I want to see you in a Canucks jersey or lifting the cup and this does neither ..

  18. marsisblack

I hope he gets an absolute boat load of cash.

  19. HoaxialCable

Honestly the guy deserves a massive bag just for the amount of teeth he’s left on the ice! He will make a dentist rich too when he retires.

  20. Sad_Faithlessness_99

Tanev Injury prone, that’s why Dallas traded him.
