Who should we target? ( free agent D and O )

I’m thinking Stephenson and tanev

You forgot Guznetzel and Stamkos. Add Zadarov to those two and those should be our targets. Either of the first two and Zadarov would be huge.

I’m not sure if Guentzel could fit, but he would be good. I also wouldn’t mind overpaying Stamkos for a year at like 9.5 or something, then take a run at Marner/Drai next year.

Tanev just got traded, I imagine he is off the Market.

Either way, I hope we invest in defense.

Sam Reinhart and literally any of those dmen would be great.

Our blueline needs an overhaul, but the prospect of signing someone like Reinhart or Guentzel is too tantalizing to not see if we could make it work. Trades will have to be made on defense because there’s a bit of a logjam on defense right now between our team from last year and the kids in Hershey who’re trying to crack the Caps’ roster, so I think before we can decide who to pursue, we need to decide who needs to go.

I’m not really sure where this idea that our d needs to be overhauled came from. Defensively we were middle of the road last season, 17th in goals against and offensively we were dreadful, 28th in goals for. If we want to be better next year we need offensive talent, hoping McMichael and lapierre step up is not going to be enough.

We need to trade for Ehlers and play him with PLD.

What is O? There is no position called “offense”. Why would they get Stephenson? They literally just traded for a center after already having four on the roster.

Nobody who wants more than 3 years. The Caps aren’t going to tank until Ovi gets the record and retires, and I’m on board with that. But they should be making moves like the ones they’ve already made, adding players who will be UFAs or could be flipped for picks within the next couple of years (or PLD, the one long contract that expires at 34). The last thing they should be doing is signing guys who are 29 or in their 30s to big money 7-year deals, which most of the top UFAs will get. Not to mention all the players on these lists who are already on the wrong side of 35 and aren’t worth the risk of even 3 years.

    Somebody that plays defense.
