The Oilers ACTUALLY Did It.. (+ Guentzel Trade)

Nhl news today – Pretty sizeable Edmonton oilers news today and Nhl trades have been aplenty lately and the jake guentzel tampa bay lightning trade carolina hurricanes leaves plenty of questions surrounding steven stamkos free agency , julien brisebois and more. The edmonton oilers jack campbell buyout opens opportunities for nhl free agency 2024 for jeff jackson and the group formerly helmed at gm by ken holland. Connor mcdavid leon draisaitl stanley cup final window is open so it’ll be interesting to see what they use the cap space on. 1. Calgary doesn't have a goaltender. Maybe Soup could bounce back there. Then again Calgary could be dead last this coming season.

  2. lol they be doing buyouts just to overpay their top two players. Doubt they’ll be adding depth.

  3. Oilers HAVE to get rid of Nurse. He is completly useless, grossly overpaid useless. I've seen driftwood that did more.

  4. Kinda feel bad for Soup. We had terrible defense during his tenure as an oilers…but when we started getting good D we didnt even try

  5. I have no ill will against Campbell. I do wish the guy a good remainder to his career. I wish it did work in Edmonton, because he does seem like such a grounded, cool person.

Certainly no hard feelings from me. I will pull for the guy wherever he ends up. Best wish, Jack. Wish it had turned out differently. 🍻

  6. I know if wouldn’t be popular but if the oilers want to make some moves they need to trade Nurse. It’s a terrible contract for the quality of the player. Reminds me of the Lukic 7 x 6. Even if the Oilers retained 25% would be a huge win but who would take him even at that?m

  7. All the best wishes for Campbell, hopefully he’ll get on a team with defensemen that, y’know…defend…the Oiler’s poor defensive performance has probably severely impacted Campbell’s confidence.

  8. Jeff Jackson had no choice but to buy out Campbell as the window closes after today. Not sure about the comment on how he's 'acting' like a GM, he will continue to do so until he finds one. BTW- you may have missed it but at the Draft he said whoever he hires he will be working closely with – that means he'll be a quasi-GM anyway regardless of who is hired (compared to NIchols who just sat back and collected a paycheck and maybe concentrated on the off ice stuff but day to day operations on the club personal wise Nicks did nothing)

  9. These players have it all their way, even if they're not good enough. They get bought out by a team and then are able to sign somwhere else. The minute they sign that should free the cap space on the original team. You can't have it both ways.

  10. Would've been have way more advantageous for EDM to trade him to a non-contender team by attaching some draft pick and retaining 25% (1.25M for 3 yrs).

  11. Canucks should pick Campbell up as a back up on league min and let Ian Clark do his thing.

  12. That's why Canada doesn't like the Oilers. Perhaps Keefe can pickup Soups for NJ backup.

  13. It feels like Tampa has the chance to change their trajectory but Guentzel really doesn’t do that for me

Guentzel is a great player for sure but Tampa needs depth, they already have the top end talent to win (a core 4 of Hedman, Kuch, Vasi and Point is great)… The team doesn’t have the supporting pieces to be anything more than a good team but unserious contender

I’d rather get a cheaper sniper to allow the rest of the roster to get filled out (someone like Tyler Toffoli)
