A 7th d essentially replacing Marc Staal. What is there to be angry about? The reaction to this will only be matched by the reaction to them announcing 3-4 random names that will be AHL deals at around 5PM.

I don’t know why people are so up in arms about “running it back” during a rebuild.

Michkov is coming two years early, that’s enough to wash the “running it back” outcries

  2. If Erik Johnson is just a warm body to have as a true 7D and play no more than that, fine.

If, and when, EJ starts gets playing time over Zamula or Ginning or Attard even though he is significantly older and worse, it will be further proof that Tortorella has no business leading a rebuild.

Erik “my best years are behind me” Johnson re-signed by the Philadelphia Flyers. I’m excited.

I legitimately just can’t understand why anyone’s angry. Do you want the team to be bad or not?

You’ve all been LAMBASTING the front office for not “rebuilding the right way” by tanking. Here they are, preparing for a major step back season, and you’re all losing your fucking marbles.

The Flyers signaled their intent for the 24/25 season on draft night; they have five picks in the top 2 rounds. They’re never drafting five players; those picks will be used *next* year for players. Their cap opens up next year. They’re really seeing this out.

Erik Johnson is here to be a 7th dman. He’ll bump in a bit when injuries happen. And yeah, he’s probably going to take some games from a Zamula or someone of his ilk; that will be annoying at times. But that’s what this is. I wouldn’t expect much more from them.

Better than Stall by a mile. He’ll spend a year as our 7th guy. 2m sounds a little high but not by much. What’s the issue?

  7. Flyersandcaps

If you don’t like EJ playing some then picture him helping us tank.

Only guy that gave af game 82. I’m content with keeping him another year. I’m not at all impressed with Ginning, Zamula or Attard and don’t care if he takes playing time away from them. They’re all just place holders until Bonk, Andrea and whoever else we draft is ready for NHL minutes.

EJ is exactly the type of vet I have zero problem with them bringing in or back and seems like the perfect role model/leadership-type of guy for younger players.

So long as he’s not taking too many minutes (unless he magically becomes a top 4 D again?), I see no downside to this.

    Perfect 7D.

he’s a cup winning veteran who appears to be a really nice dude with personality off-ice. they’re not supposed to be winning so i’m not getting caught in the minutia of a 7-8th dman. it’s whatever.

  11. I mean, if it’s a tank job like we want, isn’t this the move?

  12. The_Flyers_Fan

Everyone seems concerned about Zamula. He had his opportunity last season. I’m more concerned about Attard, given he is waiver eligible. He needs an opportunity to play here

  13. Gamingnerd10

Love this. Here for a vet to help the young guys continue to develop.

  14. We had 4 defenseman under contract on IR at the same time last year. We have to at least put a team on the ice. If a cheap backup is taking play time from guys who won’t be here in 2 years, especially a DFD, who cares? We can’t carry cap over, he’s not taking ice time from young guys. This is a win.

  15. HesiPull-UpBrando

Didn’t like it when I wanted them to contend for a playoff spot last year but I’m good now with bringing him on. Provides leadership and if he plays it will help with losses which seems to be what we should be prepped for

  16. Own_Result3651

Literally no reason for this bum. That’s the whole point of signing Nick seeler so we DONT have to sign an old man who wouldn’t even be getting top 4 minutes in the ahl much less taking a roster spot in the nhl. Defense should be drysdale, York, Sanheim, Risto, zamula, seeler, and ginning/attard. Not a road block like Erik Johnson. Our defense isn’t even very young we don’t need this bum we have vets like Risto, Sanheim, and seeler

  17. _token_black

Rather have him than Staal. Colorado guys loved having him there and hopefully they can bring in another young D man too.

  18. crafbicycle

    guys.

WE HAVE 3 FIRST ROUND PICKS IN 2025 AND ALL OF OUR OWN PICKS. ***WHO IS THE TANK COMMANDER SUPPOSED TO BE IF NOT HIM? DESLAURIERS CAN’T DO IT ALONE***

  19. realdeal411

Its fine. Someone needs to play the bottom pair and if a prospect can’t beat out him then maybe they aren’t good enough. If any thing if he sucks then the tank people should like it
