Highest value return is Larsen. I hope it’s not him as I feel his defense allows Dunn to be more creative in the offensive zone. Not the big splash name player I expected to see first from SEA.

  2. Duckkraks

If it’s true that’s a great pick up, loved watching him play for the ducks when he was younger. Should help out the back end a lot!

7×7 is going to age like poorly for a 30 year old, but that’s the price you pay for free agents I guess. Cap increase + much needed RHD will help this age better than most though.

  4. 30 years old. Only 1 season with over 40 points. Basically paying a premium for RHD. This contract is gunna SUCK in the back half.

  5. Picklepucks

Y’all wanted a fucking defenceman. Wow that’s high on both ends

  6. AdhesiveMuffin

Excited for the player and the playoff experience he brings, but I’m nervous about how this ages.

    He’s 30 and he’s missed significant time (15-30 games) in 3 of 7 seasons.

I’ll be okay with it if there is no NMC or NTC.

  7. I’m sorry but after seeing Slavins deal, this is horrendous….

Panthers fan here he fell off a bit this year but still a great physical player, quarterbacked our power play(which didn’t normally suck as much as it did in the finals) and has great energy. He was injured to start the season so maybe he can get back to how he was in 2022-2023 for you all.

For those complaining about term did you not just see a 34 year old Chris Tanev get a 6 year deal?

Term is what players want & this is the cost of doing business.

Same people would be complaining no moves were made. Same people complained they didn’t draft defense.

hope he brings some stanley cup playoff swagger

I fucking love this signing. Just what we needed on D and for our PP

7 yrs is long but glad Kraken got a D who can QB power play. Not a lot of free agents want to come to rebuilding team. So gotta make some concessions

    *Copied from the other thread:

Keep in mind, we have to rebuild our blue line this offseason. Larsson, Borgen, and Dumoulin are UFAs after this season.

  14. Go_Hawks12

Idk how to feel about this one. It’s getting shredded in the thread on r/hockey

We will need more D with all the upcoming free agents but he’s always inconsistent

  15. gnahckire

I thought we might go for the other Tanev. I like Stanley Cup champ Montour better though.

    I want a Montour jersey but I don’t want Fanatics 🙁

    Ekmund-Larsson just signed 4 for 4.5…

    Did we overpay? 😬😬😬

  17. elite_bleat_agent

If a team wanted a 2nd pairing offensive defensman and good 2nd PP quarterback, this guy is basically the best you could ever do in the current free agency landscape at that position. Very interesting!

This is a big contract. He’s good but will the contract live up to term with the way he plays?

    I’m excited

  19. RogueStudio

I like it except for the price….the potential for that to turn into an anchor contract is up there BUT that’s a problem for later years…right now, we def need the D help+scoring potential and I’m gonna accept it because A) He’s Native, I’m Native….and B)The vet presence will likely be appreciated and from what I know about the guy he’s pretty nice? LOL

  20. Everyone in here is way too gun-shy my god. Do guys actually want to pursue contention or just be mediocre forever. We are going on 4th year as a franchise it’s time to start getting serious

  21. BayAreaKrakHead

Love the signing but who is becoming the 7th D? I hope it’s not Ryker Evans. This will definitely bolster the Defense.

  22. Tunnel_Lurker

I see big numbers so I’m excited but know nothing about Montour – just read the piece on [NHL.com](http://NHL.com) and it sounds quite exciting. Solid D man and lots of experience to rub off on our younger defenders.

  23. I’m both a Kraken and Panthers fan. I’m sad he’s leaving the Panthers, but if he had to go, I’m glad it’s here. Very good puck carrying defenseman who really helps d-zone breakouts. Can jump into the play on offense, too. Did this quite effectively in the 2023 playoffs. I’m glad he’s here.
