This is a perfectly fine trade. Not putting us over the hump but it’s not gonna kill us either. Cheap depth that isn’t gonna be on our books long term like a UFA signing would be. We still have plenty of cap left, especially if Trouba goes.

  2. elevenibba

hopefully he fits better here than he did in pittsburgh

2027 pick and only 3.75M against the books? Good work by both GMs.

  4. Entire-Future7739

3.75 million for one year, can upgrade him at the deadline if it doesn’t work, proven playoff performer. I kinda like this now. Lets go Reilly Smith

  5. StyllAhlie

Makes it more palpable and helps explain the compensation, but still what an underwhelming and frankly unnecessary move.

Look at that everyone can stop complaining now, everyone was having aneurysms when they thought Pitt didn’t retain any salary.

For the price of Goodrow we have someone with 4x the points he had in the regular season.

  7. iGotUrHost

He wouldn’t have them retain unless he had something else in the world, right? What’s he cooking?

  8. guyzieman

That makes it a bit better but I still hope we have more cooking. Smith for 3rd line would be fine but we still need something for the top 6

  9. thepiombino

3.75 is better than 5, but the dude still kinda sucks

  10. We better win this year because we have no fucking draft picks going forward.

This makes the trade a lot more fair.

Funny thing is the people who will complain about how stupid the Rangers are for trading their draft picks are probably the same people who say the Rangers can’t draft.

This is a great signing. Rangers fans being extremely irrational right now.

  13. Pretty cheap pick up for a one year solution. Not a bad deal at all.

Replacing Goodrows cap hit with a significantly more productive player capable of playing in the Top 6 is good work imo

Regardless how they got here, I love this trade for what it does to next years roster. He’ll play RW on L1. He has been an alternate captain for years. Puts up 30-50 points a year and can score up to 20+ goals a year at $3.75m cap a year. And he has a cup. This is a move made for the playoffs. I love it.

I understand the salary cap jumping jacks we have to do with Trouba still on the roster. I know this is a short term option which is very ideal. I totally get all of that. But Riley Smith and nothing else with all the big pieces off the board in an offseason where the goal was to shake things up is just flat out disappointing. Maybe Trouba comes off the books and the Rangers do more to improve the top 6, but this move and some other depth signings are just not it at this point.

  17. This is a great deal, I’m honestly glad Drury didn’t overpay for some of these free agents. Sheesh, Skjei got 7×7.

Draft picks are whatever, our window closes long before a 2027 2nd rounder would be able to help this team.

I’m betting there’s a big move in the works.

  18. This trade is fine on paper and we didn’t “lose” the trade but I don’t agree with spending a 2nd round pick to get a rental player. I’d much rather try to take a flyer on a 1 year UFA as opposed to spending a pick.

Gustafsson fits that mold and we were able to get a one year starter for just FA $.

I like the player, don’t love the method.

  19. Mysterious_Wheel

We should bring back Brandon Smith just cuz

If I had to guess, this is close to what the Rangers had in mind for Kane (1×3.75/4) Wings offered substantially more $, NYR pivots to this.
