NO RESPECT | The Tampa Bay Lightning Let Steven Stamkos Walk…Fan Reaction

Terrible day in Tampa sports history as one of the most beloved players in the history of the city and one of the most respected players in the NHL…leaves. The Tampa Bay Lightning front office (JBB) better have something good to say because I do not.

  1. I think what really gets to me is that they basically went radio silent for the last year or so and when it comes time to talk extensions they lowball him so much that they made a guy like Stamkos, a very down to earth and unpretentious kind of guy, walk away.

If the organization will do that to their captain just think how they'll treat the other players.

  2. As long as Sheary is not on this team on opening night, I will feel fine about it. Nostalgia is what killed the Penguins, we can win another cup if the assets are properly managed.

  3. JBB handled this so poorly. The lightning obviously didn't have the intention to resign stamkos. I can stomach that, the team needed a roster shakeup, fine, but to just freeze the guy out like that is insane. They should have like in December or Jan gone to him and been honest, "Hey Man we are moving in a different direction next season, would you like to be traded" This would at least ensure u don't just see him walk away on FA day. I like guntz at 9 mil compared to stammer at 8, he is a better player than stammer at this point and i like the cap flexibility the bolts have now. But i think they handled this poorly.

  4. Stamkos was the top performer in the playoffs. Sergy coming back was what made them win that playoff game. Like you said, not even offering half, 3m for 8 years is an insult. All year I knew it was a controversy but I didn't for a minute think they would let him walk and his playoff performance sealed the deal on that for me.

  5. Don’t you remember when he was almost dealt in 2018? He didn’t do anything for either of those cups. Dead weight, bye Steve .

  6. Jesus. All but one of my Tampa jerseys are Stamkos, and that isn't by accident. That guy has been the face of the Lightning for as long as I've been paying attention to the sport. Number 1 draft pick for the Lightning in 2008. I was 11 during that draft pick, and I remember how quickly he proved himself. This is very disrespectful, especially since he is STILL one of the core components of this team, but they've been warning us about this for a while now. This reminds me a lot of when Martin St. Louis left.

  7. JBB put the team over the top by acquiring Goodrow, and Coleman. He also acquired Hagel, and Paul. Ask Pens fans how legacy contracts are paying their dividends today. Hedman, and Point are both captain worthy.

  8. JBB should have kept him and definitely could have stammer has grown the game in florida not just only tampa since he was drafted in 2008 so many kids wore his number playing youth hockey including me we’re all gonna miss him

  9. its just part of the entertainment business….. the window closed after losing to Colorado in the final
