Not even mad. He’s a perfect 4th liner for this team full of young guys.

I like Hathaway. He’s a good bottom sixer. But why are we extending him until he’s 35 instead of selling him at the deadline next season?

Awesome!

Very good with this.

Guess this is a sign that trading him at this deadline is highly unlikely. Oh well.

He’s here to protect the ypung forwards. I’m good with him here.

well, if Briere is extending players who aren’t even expiring, that tells you the team is pretty much done in free agency, and that’s a good thing because most of these deals being handed out league-wide today are trash.
Keep your picks, get some more, and draft and develop well. Free agency is *FAR* from a panacea.

It is a fine deal. By the time the deal expires, the young guys will be ready to fill the necessary roles on the bottom six.

Ngl I thought we extended him at the deadline?

Funny that the ESPN alert called him “veteran agitator”

Seems like the kind of move a GM makes when he really likes a guy and wants him to know he’s got a place here. It’s a cheap deal that keeps him on the team for 3 more years at most. They could easily move him or buy him out if they need an extra $1m to make a contract work. Guessing they like what he brings to the team from a culture perspective. I like the deal and I think Hathaway fits in here well.

So are we just looking at another like 12-15 overall pick next year?
Z_Clipped
As long as Torts is the coach of this team, we were always going to re-sign Poehling and Hathaway.
Peeter_With_2_Es
Tidy piece of work here. Even better that it means we’re probably staying out of this insane free agency
Bhut_Jolokia400
It was well earned probably slightly over paid but he has the veteran leadership needed in dressing room. Between Hathaway, Seeler, and Nicky Fists the bullies still have heavy hitters
