As a Quebecer I feel people forget just how much less money players make playing here. Yes, 7.6 millions sounds like a lot… But making this much money here, they get taxed close to if not more then 50% of their income.
On top of the RIDICULOUS taxes, they have another additional "Athletes" tax. Caufield, Suzuki and Slafkovsky would have way more money in their bank accounts with 5mil contracts in Florida/Texas.
These guys want to bring the cup back to Montreal, and they're literally paying out millions in paycuts to our government just to achieve it.

Signing a bridge deal and then a big contract is about the same amount as this in the end. This makes more sense. That way we can distribute the salary over time and get more players.
