[Jordan Hall] Oliver Bonk said London would call Jett Luchanko a “one-man power play break in” because he’d always push the puck into the offensive zone by himself. Bonk called Flyers’ 2024 first-rounder a special player.
A lot of discourse over the pick and this quote sheds some light on what an OHL powerhouse team full of top prospects thought of Luchanko

Also something to consider, there isn’t a lot of high end talent on that Guelph Storm roster
Regular season wise, they just barely finished top 10 in a 15 team league
He’s also still 17, for reference, the next highest scorer on his team is now 21

I understand why people’s reaction initially was so negative, the sexy name we all knew was available and they passed on it.
But this seems like a pick that the more people look into the player the more they like the pick. The choice and the player are really growing on people it seems.
I’m all for it personally, I was impartial the day of the draft, felt a bit like “meh okay”, but the more I learn the more I like, so let’s hope Jett develops into a stud centre man in the NHL😤

I’m sure this isn’t what he’s doing here, but the end of this statement sure sounds like Bonk is saying this kid doesn’t pass the puck

We need centers. And speed. I know little guys can play defense but we really do need a bigger stay at home defenseman.

Team lacks people who can break into the zone with possession. Usually its a chip or a dump near the boards and then try and be the first too it.

Bonk, Jett, Bump, Denver. We have a pipeline full of great names! Pretty good players too.

We don’t enter the zone on the power play here.

I’m finally wrapping my head around the trade we made with MIN. The Flyers must of have known that MIN did not want Luchanko, but convinced MIN that they might take Buium–which we did not want. If MIN was convinced we didn’t want Buium, they would have never traded up and just kept their 3rd round pick. So basically the Flyers stole a 3rd pick from MIN and still got their guy.
