Bolts Extend Hedman, Sabres Add Reimer, Avs Sign Brannstrom, Schedule Released

morning all all right so uh some signings to talk about but nothing along the lines of what we saw over the last 24 hours uh yesterday was ridiculous um appreciate everybody watching the videos yesterday as well as those who tuned in for the live stream it was crazy and it’s should there’s no reason to think that next year won’t be just as crazy but we do know one person who will not be part of next year’s free agent frenzy and that’s Victor Hedman Hedman staying with the Tampa Bay Lightning it’s a four-year deal for Hedman $8 million per season so they get headman done this is the way it should have been done with stamp Coast could have would have should have and all that so hindsight’s 2020 uh but they get headman done so you don’t have to worry about headman leaving if you’re a Tampa fan keeping in mind too that defenseman usually will age uh as far as their play in the NHL age a little bit slower than forwards I’ll put it that way uh you can find good defenseman they’re mid to late 30s it’s more difficult with forwards and headman’s one of the best defenseman of his generation also Tampa Bay has kept liberg uh 2-year extension for liberg $800,000 cap hit no danger to that of course uh James Rymer has signed with the Buffalo Sabers one-year deal for Rhymer a million doll capit uh again there’s no risk there you can bury more than a million in the miners if you need to this also means that Devon Levi can get a full year with Rochester and ryr could be the backup for UPL uh so because UPL really emerged as an excellent in the second half of this past season and so he’s he’s going to get paid we’ll see what upl’s contract ends up looking like but I’m sure that Buffalo is going to want to get that done sooner rather than later uh shortly after my last video was done yesterday Adam Henrik signed an extension with the Evon Oilers that comes in at a $3 million cap hit it is a 2year deal for Henrik uh and try stetcher is staying with Edmonton as well that was rumored to be coming as well uh 2-year deal for steter 78 $7,500 per season so uh no no danger with the cap hit to steter and keeping Henrik means that depth and Evon stays pretty solid uh they also kept Connor Brown this is a team that’s going to be very dangerous again next season the Oilers I would think at the very least will be favorites to win the Pacific Division and mavy will be favorites to win the Stanley Cup right so we’ll see what happens but Henrik is staying in Edmonton uh Eric branstrom signs a one-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche worth 9 $100,000 this is seen as an excellent value for his contract of course he was owed a $2 million qualifying offer th the reason that he didn’t stay in Ottawa Ottawa lets him go to market instead and it was a tough go for branstrom in Ottawa but if you look at the advanced stats analytically he was pretty good so we’ll see how branstrom does in Colorado uh he’ll play I would think uh with with a better defense in Colorado absolutely and may have a chance to play minutes that better accentuate the positives of his game so looking looking forward to seeing how he does under coach bner uh Alias Sam sonov and I mentioned during the live stream yesterday that he signed with Vegas but he didn’t have the cap hit I now do it’s $1.8 million for one year for Sam sonov to be the backup to Aiden Hill at least I assume the backup Sam sonov had a rough year in Toronto so it’s nice to see him getting a chance to go to Vegas uh Vegas fans are very supportive of their players very very very much so I’m not saying that as a slight to Toronto or other fan bases but Vegas is very much behind their players uh olon is also signed with Vegas it’s a one-year deal $1.75 million for the year and I think that’s an excellent value contract if they can get Olson back to being the 20 plus goal scorer he was not that long ago in Buffalo so it is quite possible he needed to change the scenery now he’s got it he’s going to Vegas uh Florida the latest team to switch the way that they’re going to broadcast their games uh they have a partnership now with script Sports uh to loc Al broadcast games for free to Residents in Miami for Fort Lauderdale uh West Palm Beach as well as Fort Meyers so Florida the latest to make this shift I don’t think they’ll be the last I think there’s going to be a lot of teams uh especially those that are on the Bali networks uh who will probably find other homes the NHL of course has made it clear that if they have to uh they can take over broadcasts and and and help with all that uh basically it’s just that the the regional Sports networks are not making the kind of money that they had hoped or expected and uh they’re they’re in trouble so with regional Sports networks in trouble uh we’re going to see a huge change in how things are done uh there’s one change with the NHL schedule and I talked about this when it was announced but people seeing it on the schedule I’m not very happy about the 26 Monday games on Amazon Prime so as far as I know you have to have an Amazon Prime subscription to watch anything on Amazon Prime so this would be a separate subscription from your regular NHL now I I have an Amazon Prime subscription but it does mean that I’m going to be watching cable for almost every game and then there’s going to be the Amazon Prime game as well so that’s going to be a a little bit odd uh I would assume that if they’re on Amazon Prime they’re not going to be available on sportset Plus or Center ice so yeah that’s that’s an odd move for the NHL and I have seen people saying wait a minute so now we have to get a different subscription service to watch NHL games yeah does feel like that’s kind of going in the wrong direction there was a court case that went against the NFL for their Sunday Ticket uh which could have an effect on other sports as well and could lead to an end of regional blackouts it could lead to a complete change so it could make it so that you could sign up for Center ice and say you know what or ESPN plus sportset plus say you know what I want to get all the Avalanche games I want to get all the Dallas games uh this the NFL ruling could lead to that for NFL teams which could then fres or other leagues to offer a similar package which I think is kind of what a lot of fans have wanted for a very long time I’m not sure how that would work with cable of course to just have one team but at any rate um that’s that’s where things seem to be headed now uh the crazy night on the schedule is October 22nd There are 16 games so I’m expecting those to start every 15 minutes keep in mind that I am going to be changing how I do reviews on really busy nights um 10 or more games I’m going to be changing how I do the the reviews for those nights and uh there are 15 games on November 23rd and November 27th because American Thanksgiving uh also there are two games on February 9th before the NHL goes on on their break for the four nations tournament and it doesn’t return until February 22nd so that’s a long stretch there without NHL games uh there will be the four nations tournament games but uh I’ll very likely be uh going on vacation at that time of year there’s just the it looks like it’s just going to be one game per day so it’s not really going to hold me back from going on vacation during that time um it’s just it’s a little bit later than the uh actual All-Star Game usually is by a couple weeks uh the season ends on April the 17th it’s a six-game night uh the season opens overseas on October the 4th and then it opens in North America on October the 9th so yeah uh it’s going to be an interesting season and if it ends on April 17th we’re going to see the Stanley Cup Final go right up until the draft again um this is just the NHL’s way of saying yeah we’ve we’ve heard fans discussions of how they’d like the season to end earlier and we’ve said no so and and the ratings being up for the Stanley Cup Final tell them everything’s fine no nothing to worry about so yeah uh the schedule release though was kind of fun again the douge Hamilton one was fun uh but every team kind of went through their own uh release and and how they did it so go check out the schedule for which ever team you’re rooting for or teams you’re rooting for and I’ll be looking through the NHL schedule and trying to figure out which tickets I want to buy for Vancouver conu games uh keeping in mind that if I’m going to go to an NHL game it’s normally when there’s four or less games also throwing in here too I know there’s people who are aware I’m going to a a concert on what I knew was going to be a busy night in the National Hockey League and indeed it will be there are nine games in the NHL that night but I’m going to a concert so what am I going to do I’m I’m not going to not go to the concert so anyways there you go uh but let me know your thoughts in the comment section below as always don’t forget to hit like And subscribe if you’ve not done so already thank you guys so much for all your support I will talk to you again soon

  1. With the Thursday night NFL games on prime you are able to watch them for free on twitch so maybe it’ll be the same for the NHL

  2. Shannon, why don't you have a guest reviewer for the night at the concert? I think that could be a fun way to collaborate with another creator

  3. For the Pirme issue I guarantee that Amazon payed a butt load of money for those games that’s why the NHL did that

  4. Excited to hear what TEG thought of that concert, it sounds fun. Glad you are doing that and don't feel anchored to this, because we can handle a night off with no reviews.

  5. Oilers 100% have the best line up in the NHL rn if the season were to start tomorrow and they aren't even done yet. Pretty positive they're looking to upgrade on Ceci by shopping him and McLeod together. Maybe they also throw in a pick to get an upgrade for a solid top 4. After that i don't think theres anyone in the league who's gonna stop them. They already had a top 5-10 defense last season with Ceci and Vinny. Now imagine what it'll be like after an upgrade on both. Broberg will replace Vinny who is already looking like a beast top 4 pairing dman.

  6. Congratulations 🎊 to Smashville for their great work yesterday because they definitely won 🏅 the biggest collection of players in my opinion and most of the pundits agree. My favorite teams did awfully bad unfortunately 😫L.A.,VGK,🦆,UT.

  7. Scripps broadcasts the VGK games for free as well. Still need cable to watch it though. They said it would be available with a digital antenna, but most of the city cannot receive them. Hopefully they do a better job with it in FLA.

  8. Boy, I sure hope all these streaming services that we have to buy, do not lead people to just watching them on easily accessible illegal streams. That would be terrible.

  9. All I wish about broadcasting is NESN implodes. so I might be able watch a Bruins game on ESPN+
Shannon if some Neanderthal gives grief about going to a concert as hard as you work they can pound sand. Go enjoy yourself man, we will get caught up.

  10. You don't need to give us a play-by-play review for games. Mute the haters. I want to hear what YOU think. I can watch a game if I really want to.

  11. Good luck with Reimer, Buffalo. He plays hard but is guaranteed at least one or two really bad goals a game. I cringed every time he was between the pipes on a breakaway. He needs lots of help from his D, which he didn't typically get in Detroit.

  12. 3 games fifteen minutes apart Shannon? You should do what one buddy of mine did-three tv’s stacked on top of each other. The console floor model, then the 26” and then the 12”.

  13. At the end of the trades, would you make a video talking about the trades each team has made and what it may mean for them? Or is that too many videos 😆😆

  14. Only oddity for me is locking Monday games behind Amazon prime. As someone who pays for sportsnet I don’t think more paywalls is very reasonable…

  15. Someone should do a video with cardboard cutouts of Gary Bettman and Shannon reviewing the games on the night you go to the concert.

  16. My only question from this whole video THG is, what concert?!?! You’re a metal fan like me, so I’m curious. I won’t judge whatever it is though, I promise. My last show was Sarah McLachlan. Which was great. Pantera before that, haha. Variety is the spice of life. Whoever you’re seeing, have fun. And thanks for keeping us informed as always. Cheers 🍻(cider I swear!😉)

  17. I'm looking forward to the new review format. I've appreciated the evolution of the channel. I like how the previews have become part of the news of the day, and in general at times when I get fed up with the culture of NHL hockey for various reasons, and get away from it for a while, you keep me interested and from getting too far away from it.

  18. Hedman: “Sorry to see Stams go, he is my friend…”. Also Hedman: “My contract value has nothing to do with the team not willing to make a more decent offer for Stams.” Also Also Hedman: “You know we can sell more jerseys if I wear the ‘C’ right?”

  19. How does Reimer keep getting work? Worst goalie in the league isnt worth all the headaches. Dude literally caused all that drama with the pride jerseys. He cost the league more money than he ever made the league.
