Now That the New York Islanders Have Signed Anthony Duclair, What Will the Line Combos Look Like?

Now that the New York Islanders have signed winger Anthony Duclair, what will the team’s new line combinations look like? We take a look at the possibilities and I make my predictions as well.

Plus, what else should GM Lou Lamoriello look to add before training camp opens for the 2024-25 NHL season to make the Isles a better team? We discuss the team’s needs up and down the lineup.

And the Isles signed five different players designed to bolster their AHL farm team, the Bridgeport Islanders. We’ll break down those signings and discuss their impact on the organization.

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. Duclair – BO – Barzal
    IShkakov – Brock – palmeri
    Lee – JGP – holmstrom

Ideally you need to trade JGP or lee. Two overpaid losers

  2. 13, 14, ?. duclair 29, 21. 27, 44, 18. 20, 53, 32. The $5 mill. and $ 7 mil. third liners have to go somewhere until one goes in trade because louzer wont buy either one out. And until one is moved the ? remains with 13, 14. Probably 10 gets tried there. 21 even duclair will get a shot with 13, 14 or roy will just move 29 up there to get some offense going. The neverending big hole up front that never gets filled with a true scorer remains. One article says isles should trade 26 to laffs for unhappy n. robertson. I don't see robertson filling that hole. The ahl signings-HO HUM. More isle 'depth' signings. The typical isle interchangable ahl types. Gill tho has potential as another isle 5th rd. pick. Was second in q league scoring on a top ranked drakkar team that was swept in q league final so he has scoring ability. Another dufour, or maggio, or can he produce at pro level? One other isle prospect to mention. Isle '23 4th rd. pick jesse nurmi-lw finland was selected in chl import draft by london knights who turn out more nhl'ers than any jr. team. So maybe a chance to play for scumbag coach dale hunter will lure nurmi to come over to n. america next season to play. Have a good 4th gil.

  3. Gil, I think st.Patrick liked what he saw in iskhakov in that one game last season. That’s why he played him in the playoff game. He probably said to Lou why the hell isn’t this guy on the team? Iskhakov is the most offensively creative player in the organization and he can’t even get a sniff it’s ridiculous. He’s better than fasching, holmstrom, engvall, gauthier,Casey, jgp, and Maclean. I bet iskhakov starts with Nelson and palmieri again when camp starts. Fasching after last season shouldn’t be guaranteed a spot either. He can go back to Bridgeport and play with gauthier.

  4. Happy 4 th Gil ! A trade has to happen or players waived to fit players under the cap! That is the softest team Ever! lol ! You don’t need another skater in Duclair on top line! Put the Russian on top line since he is a go the the net player not the best Skater! Since Palms is not a great skater put Duclair on second line with Brock and Palms! 3 rd line Lee , JGP, Simon, 4 th Kyle, Casey, Gauthier…… this team needs size and grit! A lot of improvement is needed! Lou needs to Trade away players! I respectfully disagree Gil I want to try that goal scoring Russian on the top line immediately to see if there is chemistry! Trades have to be coming! You are spot on with grit n size! We have to many bottom 6 soft players!

  5. Good 🎂, Gil, how are you. HAPPY 4th. I can see Patrick Roy putting Anthony DuClair with Barzal and Horvat. The window of opportunity for buyout is closed. I don't blame you for disagreeing with this set up; however, we have until September when training camp starts, and October, when the season actually starts. I hope they bring back Ishkakov. The Islanders need another Top 6 forward that will fit in with Patrick Roy's system. They also need a guy who can put the puck in the net, and is not above acting like Rip Wheeler when it comes to protecting his teammates. The PK unit needs lots of work. The Islanders added Frederick Kohlstrom 25 years nice size, he'll probably be in Bridgeport. Mark DeCombs, he'll be in Bridgeport, too. Justin Gill, 21 years old playing in QJL, can put the puck in the net. Pinho, 29 years old. HAPPY 🎂, TRENT HUNTER. Respectable career. Before I go, I have to tell you, I watched the playoff game between The Islanders and The Los Angeles Kings in 1980 at The Coliseum. Bryan Trottier, who was cursed when it came to the playoffs, and was eaten alive in the papers because of it, scored a 🧢 trick that night, broke the curse, and when he won The Conn Smythe 🏆, it was his way of telling the press GO TO HELL. Hear from you later, Gil, enjoy your 🧨, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

  6. This clamoring for Iskhakov reminds me of Ho-Sang nonsense. Its not lip service. Players have to contribute away from the puck for a team to win. hope he works out but unlikely with his size and lack of defensive play.

  7. 100% they need more grit Gil. Spot on. Move on from Clutter and Martin but def try to replace with guys who can skate better but will finish checks.

  8. Good morning team & Happy 4th of July to everyone!! Gil, interesting subject today. Where does the team stick Duclair? I do know this, after watching and following the team these many years, since 1972-73 season. That was last century, all. Where players start the season, is almost never, where they finish the season. Except for replacements, for injuries and such, I would be tickled pink if everyone has instant chemistry and the lines hardly change, at all, throughout the season. Do you know what that means, if that does happen? We make the playoffs and go deep! I love talking line combinations with everyone. Let's see what Roy's gut feeling is with his players. Great topic today. Gil, and everyone, have a great day today, and please be safe. Catch you all next time. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  9. Engvall 6 years and $18M. What a terrible signing. I doubt Patrick Roy would have been in favor of that if he had been here last off season.

  10. Horvat, Barzal, Palmeri
    Duclair, Nelson, Tsyplakov
    Engvall, Cizikas, Lee
    Fasching, MacClean, Holmstrom

This is assuming Pageau's contract is moved to free up some salary.

  11. Lou can’t find 1.5 to 2.0 million to try and sign Daniel Sprong definitely be a upgrade on the second line with palm and Nelson than move the Russian guy to the third line with JG and lee 4 line Casey Holmstrom and mcLean I can live with that

  12. If no big signings this off season with no proven elite, NHL talent I don’t expect much change in the results for NY Islanders in upcoming season. Have a Happy 4th to all, hope better signings or trades for Isles

  13. I like how our defense is shaping up. It's exactly what I had hoped for. Now I'll be hoping Pelech and Mayfield return to old form and Bolduc develops into a decent puck moving D. Covid had a negative impact on his development in the AHL, then the coaching turmoil tripped him up in the NHL. We'll see.
Our forward group is still second rate. Adding Duclair MIGHT get us into the 2nd round, but not much more, but we'll have no depth if Lou doesn't dump cap and sign or swap our unsigned RFA's. I've been saying for 2 years the situation dictates Pageau goes. I think there are a few teams that will take him with no retention. If we can get Lee back in front of the net and producing like he used to, his cap hit will hurt a lot less. Getting pictures of some GM visiting the happy hands massage parlor is the only way we can get rid of Engvall.

Confidence is not flowing on the Island. Except Lou. He's happy because, as he always says after failing to improve the roster, "It's not about who is here, who is no longer here, it's about who we have".
    SMH……puckin' brilliant.

  14. Unfortunately it will be a lot easier to move pagaue and Lee next offseason or possibly the deadline because teams won’t want that term for 2 seasons but 1 is manageable, Lou also won’t have a choice because of Dobson and Romanovs new deals, even a buyout next offseason won’t hurt as nearly as bad as it would of, I want Lee off the roster as bad as anyone but like bailey the reality is this is likely our lineup this year, just have to hope the Russian pans out, trade deadline we could either buy if we’re in contention to take is to the next level or we sell Nelson palmeri, 44 and 27 if we’re out of contention

  15. Gil I 100% agree with I've been watching this guys reels and he can play and he's only gotten better as time went on
