CAN NICK ROBERTSON BE A CALDER TROPHY FINALIST? SUPERSTAR POTENTIAL?

In this video, I go over Toronto Maple Leaf prospect Nick Robertson. I outline my expectations of him for the 2020/2021 season, talk about what line he might play on, and I put his historic 19/20 season in the OHL into context and try to predict or project his goal and point totals for next season!

  1. i think he deserves a true spot on the roster on the second line, get rid of Andreas Johnsson and give Robertson that spot,as most GM'S will tell you,you cant teach goal scoring, and this kid has it.

  2. Well let's not put expectations too high will he develop into a top six winger yes i think so but a Calder Trophy hmmm.

  3. Marners replacement , move over paid players who aren’t “engaged” in the game. I say 15-18 goals and pending who he plays with 28-35 assists, don’t think he will win the Calder but top 3 I can see possibly

  4. This is why I love your videos, you listen find what potential arguments people could have and you give your oppinion on it. I’m a little higher on this guy now after seeing this video I personally think he’s going to spend most of his time on the 3rd line which is going to severely stunt his point totals but I could see him scoring 20-20 reguardless. Who did debrinkat play with in his first year did he play down in the lineup or did he play with toews I can’t remember

  5. I'm always going to support YouTubers talking about the leafs but your titles are very click bait. You can tone down the caps letters. I know you need to build your base but it's a little much.

  6. I think he'll slide in nicely especially on a ELC pemding what line they play him I think he'd put up a 20-25/30 season with room to improve in the big show. I still think trading marner to the kings for doughty & l.a eats some of doughty cap. Drew would kill it here, you can see hes bored playing at l.a and could revive his hunger for a third cup playing with the boys. Drew's an absolute stud & by far one of the best d in the league & he has that wild factor to fire up the boys when things are down. Marner gets to be the superstar he wants to be so bad & doughty gets the revive his love for the game. I get everyone's hard on for marner but just like Boston & Seguin. Hes just not a leaf, I believe hes in it for the money & fame. Who wouldnt want to ride out on a team full of talent throw up a bunch of points & never get yelled at for losing in the first round lol

  7. If Robertson can develop into a 2nd line LW Forward the leafs are laughing. Him playing well in the playin round I think helped Dubas be able to trade Kappy

  8. Nick Robertson just barely made last years draft class by like 4 days. He's actually only 30 days older than Lafrenière, but 6 months younger than Jack Hughes for reference. He's kind of an in betweener. And if you project up his 55 goals and 86 points that he got in 46 games to a full 68 game OHL season it works out to 81 goals and 127 points. How different would we be looking at him if he was 4 days younger and the season wasn't shortened by covid and he put up those stats in his draft year?? Cuz he just missed it by inches. He definitely would have been a top 10 draft pick

  9. If it's Robertson-Tavares-Nylander….yes (as a finalist….winner will obviously be Laf). This is a hugeeee hot take….but Robertson can score 30 next season. Tavares alone has gotten his team mates incredible numbers. Add Nylander to that and you have the making of an incredible rookie year. Tavares and Nylander are puck cycling beasts. Robertson just has to get open and snipe when the puck comes. Have to consider that these other players like Stutzle, Byfield etc. that are going to rookies next season don't have players like Tavares and Nylander to play with. They will have to be the go-to guys of their line whereas Robertson gets to eat. Thus Robertson has a good chance to out-point them.

  10. That list of 19 and under over the last 20 years is definitely missing players. Matthews was 19 for the entire 16-17 season and had 69 pts. His birthday is September 17th, so he didn't turn 20 until the preseason of 17-18. Are you sure that isn't just under 19 rather than 19 and under?

  11. 18 – 20 Goal Season playing 3rd line minutes, assuming no big injuries up front, and second power play unit.

  12. Ya'll should compare Nick Robertson to Jack Quinn who just went 8th overall yesterday to Buffalo. Nick was 4 days old enough to make last years draft. Jack was 4 days too young. So they're 8 days apart in age (Nick Sept. 11 2001, Jack Sept 19 2001).

And Nick Robertson's numbers are significantly better than Quinn's are both this year and last year and the year before that. In fact, Robertson basically got the same stats 55g, 86p in 46 gm as Quinn 52g, 89p in 62 gm just in 16 fewer games (as much production in 75% the games). And last year Robertson had 27g, 55p in 54 gm whereas Quinn had 12g, 32p in 61 gm (which is producing at double the rate on a per game basis). And yet Jack Quinn became a top 10 pick because he got lucky enough to be evaluated in this years draft rather than last years class despite the two kids being almost identical in age.

This is awesome for the Leafs cuz they got Robertson for a late 2nd round pick and if he was literally 4 days younger he would have been probably close to being a top 5 draft pick since his numbers are significantly better than the 8th overall pick. What a steal! Robertson's numbers this season project up to 81g, 127p in a full 68 gm OHL season. That's easily top 10 worthy. I don't think it's a stretch to say Robertson could compete for the Calder depending on who he gets on a line with.

  13. This is a classic example of how leaf fans overate their prospects and players. Dude just turned 19, pump the breaks a little. Give him some time – expecting 25 goals next year is lunacy.

  14. I think he's a lock for 25 goals easy. I know it's a small sample size but he had a 1 goal in 4 games vs Columbus. He easily could've scored a couple more and that's vs a very solid defensive team. Imagine him vs worse teams, he could torch them. Some people are saying the Leafs are worse offensively in their bottom 6 and I think if you have him with Kerfoot and Simmonds, that line could do a lot of damage and isn't as bad as people say.

  15. Im excited for Robertson but calder finalist seems pretty optimistic. I definitely think he would've been a top 10 pick in this year's class, but that still puts him behind guys who will likely get first line minutes like lafreniere and stutzle. Not to mention Byram and Turcotte from last year and guys like Ty Smith who are waiting to debut. Realistically if we think Robertson wouldve been picked in 6-10 range this draft that means he likely needs another year before hes really ready to be an impact player

  16. Calder Trophy Finalist? Superstar Potential? Really? What part of his game reminds you of Guy Lafleur, Ovi, Mike Bossy, Nathan Mackinnon, or Brit Selby, perhaps? The kid just turned 19, and has yet to make the Leaf squad. Let's go real slow on the 'superstar' tag. Real slow.

  17. I want to be honest, I love Robertson but when you look at the Leafs wingers I'm not sure he makes the team next year barring injury. Marner, Nylander,Hyman,Simmonds may take the top 4. He might have a crack at 3 Rd line but they won't waste him away in the 4th line.Id rate him 50/50 to make the team out of camp.
