BUFFALO SABRES RANT | Trade Matt Savoie to Edmonton Oilers for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio

BUFFALO SABRES RANT | Trade Matt Savoie to Edmonton Oilers for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio

Sabers fans I’m I’m doing this for you I honestly I actually cannot believe how you put up with it playoff disappointments are one thing disappointments in season are one thing to set your team up so poorly and to I I don’t understand how you can for one second stress patience stress building this Prospect pool just to throw it away because what you have a third line Center need and you’re just going to give up one of your best prospects to do that I honestly I actually cannot understand how in today’s NHL with today’s technology with today’s scouting with today’s analytics you are making a trade like this and on top of it you’re trading with a team that clearly doesn’t have the leverage to make a deal like this like Edmonton is laughing this off season they’ve already made a bunch of bargain type deals through free agency and they were going to move one of their bottom sticks forwards to create more space for their long-term extensions coming up Ryan McLoud being one of those players that wasn’t much of an impact in the staning Cup Final was probably on the outside in terms of that bringing in Jeff Skinner in terms of them bringing in Victor arvitson like what are we do it pulling this up right now because I actually cannot believe I’m looking at this the Buffalo Sabers have acquired Ryan McLoud and Tyler Tulio which I actually like Tyler Tulio but he’s not going to be anything crazy flashy next to Matt seavoy one of the Buffalo Savers best prospects Kevin Adams what are you doing this is the best way I can describe it the Savers have been making the most shocking moves this offseason in the worst way Kevin Adams is cooked and here’s the three moves that I didn’t like one trading a second round pick for Beck manstein who’s going to be your fourth liner is he going to be a good fit for the Buffalo Sabers potentially but a second round pick for a fourth liner is absurd two you could go big fish hunting and I’m not just talking about free agency I’m talking about you could do it through a trait and you just commit $5 million to Jason zooker yes only a one-year deal I don’t hate it as much as these other two moves but at the end of the day Jason zooker was thrown away for pennies at the deadline because of his high cap hit so even if the Sabers aren’t good this year you’re GNA have to retain 50% of Jason Zucker and even have a chance at getting a decent draft pick and when I when I mean decent draft pick I mean like a third or second run pick and that’s basically getting your pick back that you traded for a fourth or got a fourth liner for and then this third move and this is like another way to put it Matt l talking about Matt seavoy trade has forsberg for Martin eat lot of Vibes I don’t know if you guys remember Philip forsberg drafted High by the Washington Capitals I believe 11th overall top 15 and there was some question marks about his draft that’s not the case with Matt seavoy here guys like that to me this is actually if not worse like Ryan McLoud maybe a change of scenery closer to home obviously being from the GTA Buffalo’s closer to home a lot closer to home he can be their designated third line Center 63 only 24 years old still like there’s a lot of perspectives where you can be like you know what Savers fans you could like Ryan McLoud but not at the cost of Matt seavoy this is ridiculous completely ridiculous when you have like aosen and and other prospects you could have traded here and I just look at that stat line like this guy you know what I don’t care if he wasn’t going to fit into the Sabers line this year or next year I truly think that patience was the play for this player pink Krebs maybe not but when you’re talking about Zack Benson jumping on the scene and a guy that just put up 71 points in 34 games in the dub almost a goal per game looks electric his hands his speed his creativity he looks like he’s going to be dynamic and Edmonton just sat back and goes hey we got to get rid of Ryan moud somehow let’s see what the market is for Ryan McLoud okay Matt seavoy immediately our best Prospect come on board he’s definitely one of the best prospects on the Oilers probably the best and he was one of the best prospects on the Sabers and just Kevin Adams tossed him away and uh yeah Dustin neelson I guess he’s saying it instantly becomes the ERS top prospect off the top of my head I mean that sounds right so yeah I mean or fans are laughing they can’t believe I mean the NHL world can’t believe for me it’s not even a perspective of like it’s a bad fit like I think actually Ryan McLoud could be a great fit with the Buffalo Sabers it’s it’s about Asset Management folks like I’m not talking about these guys that they’re bringing in are bad fits like Beck Valenstein like I like the player I do I actually think he’s going to be perfect for the Sabers fourth line but at the same time what are we doing tra like the fact that you moved a second round pick that became Cole Hudson and you traded Matt seavoy one of your best prospects for a third and fourth liner like oh my that’s what are we doing man and the Sabers have like $15 million of cap space it’s crazy man the Savers have all the leverage all the space and you make a trade like this it’s crazy man I swear if you waited a couple months I actually think Ryan McLoud could have been had for so cheap like I think if you wait till August September when the Oilers are trying to figure out their cap situation like we’re talking a second or third round pick for Ryan MCL loud that’s that’s my opinion maybe I’m wrong but that’s that’s how I feel based on the projection of where Edmonton needs to be at to start the season and for their upcoming contracts so this trade obviously bugs me and then I look at this one again Beck Valenstein for a second round pick that ends up being Cole Hudson so saers fans are going to keep an eye on this right what Cole Hudson becomes what Matt leavoy comes like that’s going to be a perspective when Matt zooy comes into the league boom boom it’s going to be a huge perspective and here’s what I’ll say and I’m talking to Kevin Adams on this one if you don’t make a trade like this immediately that trade you just made makes zero sense zero you committed now to being ready to make the playoffs now you overpay now for a top six forward you do it now you do it yesterday and and honestly they should go all out for eers and recer or one of them eers there’s been rumors that they’re going after eers or Martin hes you make that trade yesterday now the Savers have so much cap flexibility you package Krebs I know Savers fans don’t want to lose Benson but you know what Kevin Adams just made a statement by losing trading Matt seavoy you you cannot make a move like that unless you’re committing to making the playoffs and now the Sabers need to commit to make the playoffs you trade your first you trade Benson you get Nikolai eer as a guy that can put up 60 70 points and you get ruer MCG who can easily be a top six forward I think R mcord fits better what the Sabers are trying to accomplish than Zack Benson and eers immediately a top six forward potentially a topl line guy with Tage Thompson I think you make a move like this Ryan Johnson not going to get his opportunity with Buffalo at this point right maybe he does I think he should I love the player again you’re talking about Bowen Byram Rasmus dalen Owen power Matias Samson all left shot defenseman that are filling up the top six then you add in and Yoki Haru in it you trade Yoki Haru or you trade Ryan Johnson or somehow you get rid of that Conor Clifton contract regardless you’re trading a defenseman you trade Zack Benson you trade a first you get elers and mordi in here that’s the package if you’re not doing a move like this like if Kevin Adams over the next month is not trading for a Martin atress uh Patrick l Nikolai eer is making a bold move like that this Ryan McLoud move the Beck mountainin move they make no sense and it’s stupidity like you should be going into the new season with an electric top six forward because at this point you just sent a message that you don’t have trust in your young guys that you drafted like talking about a top 10 draft pick what are we doing what are we doing like I have a huge I have a huge problem with having a lack of Direction it’s not even a matter of making mistakes making bad moves I have a huge problem with a lack of Direction and to me this screams lack of Direction just to get a quick fix on your third line Center Spot to trade what potentially like I think Matt seavoy could be as good as a top liner in a in in a few years so I have a huge problem I have a huge huge huge problem and Kevin Adams let’s see what’s next because right now I’m so so frustrated for Sabers fans like this is not just yesterday or the day before where like this has been time now where you like the gaslighting has been occurring and I mean I’m just thinking out loud like Jack eel 2015 like that was down bad that was Rock Bottom you’re talking a decade later Jack Jack e won a Stanley Cup you’re talking about a decade later and you’re still basically in the same position the only difference is is I love the Sabers what they’re doing on the defense group side and they have two goalies that have as I mean the Sabers goal tending situation is as bright or if not the brightest in the NHL like I think Devon Levi is going to be a stud and Lucan showed last year what he can be a uh capable of so in terms of the defense group and in terms of the goal tending maybe there’s an argument that Buffalo has to trade one of their left shot for right shot but oh my gosh please and this is where I think Sab fans might have to be nervous I just watched AO trade Jacob Chan for Nick Jensen that makes me so nervous for a Sabers team that has the same dilemma as Ottawa like the same way that Ottawa traded for Chan thinking okay I know we already have Shabbat I know we already have Sanderson but let’s bring in ch because he’s that legit and who cares about the handness well folks that’s what Buffalo basically did last year they brought in Bow and Byrum and I’m worried that the same thing’s going to happen they’re going to feel that they need change they need great shot defenseman they’re going to overpay for another Conor type and then they’re just not going to know the perspective of value management asset management and I’m and I’m having a problem with that with sabes right now just making moves basically showing your desperation to other teams we need a third line Center uh uh M boy traded like there’s got to be some patience involved and I understand Sabers management has been patient to an extent but Sabers fans have been waiting around for so long like I can’t remember when the Sabres were actually a serious organization since the 2000s when watching like the Sabers and sends battled out in the playoffs when’s the last time Buffalo was serious since then so Savers fans I I’m like I am so with you on this that it’s getting absurd and if Kevin Adams and this Management Group does not make a move in terms of like a Nikolai eers Martin hes or something notable over the next month or prior to the season if they make this their last move going into the new season with like I said close to $15 million in cap space we’re going to have a huge huge issue and I’m going to cancel this trade and just looking at if Lucan signs 3.5 million Beck mste around 1.5 you have about $9 million of cap space $9 million of cap space there better be a move coming let me know what you guys think hit that subscribe button like notification Bell this was my rant hopefully uh you’re on the same page with me I’m Savers fans I feel you I feel you talk soon

  1. Sabres have the top 2 centers for long term. Thompson and Cozens. Top 6 wingers are Benson Peterka Quinn and Tuch. They needed to improve line 3 and 4 and the PK. And they are making moves

  2. Easy there ya Matt is a good player now but that doesn’t always mean they’ll be good in the nhl. I do agree Edmonton stole this all day long. Oilers fan here and yes McLeod will make your teams faster in fact he’s your fastest player now. That said his shooting accuracy is shit and he doesn’t hit.

  3. Kevyn Adams is a loser and needs to go. He has done nothing for the Sabres and is destroying them. He is a traitor and being paid by other teams in the NHL to sabotage them. That is the only thing I can think that would make sense.

  4. As an Oiler fan i'd like to make a few comments. 1st) We fans know how frustrating it is to have a GM make blunders.. I know exactly how you feel. 2nd) I cant believe we got Matt Savoie in this deal. 3rd) You're gonna like McLeod.. and he has room to grow but not to a Matt Savoie level. 4th) Oilers weren't against the wall when it comes to making cap space. They still have options incl LTIR Kane for the season. Thats all I got.. Thank you. I'm sorry I feel your pain but we're ecstatic about this deal.

  5. I understand how this trade might look questionable at first glance, but you essentially answered your own question. Why would Buffalo make this trade? I can't believe for a minute that Kevin Adams is an inept GM who would trade a top prospect without a solid reason. Savoie is an unproven 5'9" center in the NHL, while in return, you're getting a 6'3" center with proven NHL experience. How many 5'9" centers dominate the league? Size down the middle is crucial. I think this is a smart trade, and Adams must have seen something in Savoie that he didn't like.

  6. I just wanna thank you in all seriousness because this sums up exactly my thoughts & feelings on this embarrassing fleecing as well.

  7. With Buffalo still $13 million under the cap… maybe this is all part of a larger deal… a deal for Mitch Marner. There’s not many teams that have cap space for a Marner deal. Toronto is going to want some NHL ready players included in any Marner trade. Maybe McLoud is just one piece of what it takes to bring Marner to Buffalo.

  8. Dude, McLeod is a great player……you guys are gonna love him. He will be missed here in Edmonton….i hope you give the guy a fair shake.

  9. 20+ year exclusive Sabres fan here. Never complain. Have been optimistic and have supported Adams this whole time.
This trade ended that. I'm furious and disheartened.
Also fell in love with the Oilers this past season. First team outside the Sabres I can call myself a fan of. With Skinner and Savoie heading there, I'm going to have to follow them going forward. What will be telling is whose games I watch more of this coming season. It's incredibly frustrating, because I've been happy with all the moves to rebuild our bottom 6 this offseason (Sabres) – but this just killed me.
I was hoping for a Benson and/or Krebs and/or Pick(s) trade for an experienced top line guy if we made another move. Lafferty or Krebs could be our 3rd line C. I don't care how fast McLeod skates. We just loaded up on toughness and people who can play the PK, we did not need this. Fast skating and a 50% faceoff record last season isn't going to get us closer to a cup. Savoie coming up in next year or two would have. Done defending Adams.

  10. Savoie really stagnated in his development even going back to his draft year, that combined with his boom or bust profile really tanks his value. That being said this trade is still bad for Buffalo

  11. Mcloud is no Savoie in terms of potential but he is still a really solid player. Really solid on the pk and skates like the wind

  12. Super sports agents like Jeff Jackson see things differently than every day run of the mill over-used over employed good ole boys club GMs. Jackson wants this to be his team, top to bottom, before the new GM is hired. Evidently the GM role is easy as shit for Jackson. I wouldn't be surprised if Jackson pulls off one more absolute stunner block buster trade before the season starts. Maybe involving Darnell Nurse and 1 or 2 first rounders. Acquiring a top pairing D no one ever thought would jump ship from their current team to be with the cup or bust Oilers.

  13. It gets realy weird…

Back in 2020, the Sharks traded away their rights to a fourth-round pick, which the Oilers practically snagged for free. That pick happened to fall in the same draft where Tullio was picked at #126, and the Oilers also grabbed their freebie at #100 with Carter Savoie. Fast forward two years, and the Sabres grabbed highly-touted prospect Matt Savoie at #9 in the 2022 draft… yadda, yadda, yadda. Now, four years later, the Oilers have pulled off a move that feels straight out of a movie script: They've acquired Matt Savoie at #9 overall and Carter Savoie at #100 overall, returning two brothers both back to their birthplace to play hockey in Edmonton! (St. Albert, AB)

  14. Savoie is under sized and unproven. He got jumped in the prospect pool several times in just a couple years. It’s a win win trade
