Think he is doing a fairly good job but the copp, husso and holl contracts are hurting the wings right now.
2025-2026 is the year where the magic happens I guaranteed it. Half the team is a UFA. Will have a ton of cap space.
My favorite Red Wing player. He’s a bad GM with a high school education. Stumbling along. It will be interesting to see how he spins not making the playoffs next year. We still have a couple years on his 12 year plan so it’s like we’re ahead of schedule. Stevie, you can’t be good at everything. It’s like taking the top mechanic invite garage and making him the business owner. It just doesn’t work. He doesn’t have Verbeek to hold his hand and guide him. Like that old show “Lost in Space”. This is the year where it hits the fan and Stevie is going to blame it on injuries or a “there adjusting to the speed of the NHL” to buy yet more time.
This is the time the top prospects make the team… berrgren, nate Danielson, kasper, simon obviously and may even a guy like asp… mazur… what are we crying about.. we been told its the best pool in the nhl time to graduate them
Since Yzerman has been here, he has built the Wings farm system to the top 3 in the league. It takes time but is the right way. Through the draft.
McCarty would be HAPPY with a 30-year rebuild. "Whatever Stevie Wants."
Yzerman will spend what the owner allots. If you are upset with them not spending all the cap blame the owner. It’s no longer Mike Illitch. Also if the biggest names don’t want to come to Detroit that’s their decision, not Yzermans. I watched and waited many years to see them win a cup. It took a long time. Be patient or fuck off. I’m going to enjoy the ride. Go Wings!!

These so called fans must not be watching Holmes way, and didn't understand his situation when he became the GM for the Lions. Yzerman is going thru the same thing, but having to draft younger players who are not ready for the NHL. Total different situation about development between the two sports. Unless you're drafting the #1 pick every year which for some unknown reason he was getting screwed in the draft lottery.
and within the last hour, OUR Captain signed Vladimir Tarasenko… Yzerplan. Nuff said.
We dodged several bullets by not overpaying free agents and not tying up older players on longer terms. We don't have a D on the books over 2 year contracts, the Copp contract hasn't been great, he needs to step up, we signed Taresenko and Kane and brought in additional goalie options, were doing pretty good 😏
Am not even a wings fan ( Kane fan ) but honestly you guys were 1 point away from the playoff and I saw all this games this past year and goaltender was a big issue on why you guys didn’t make the playoffs

To say the team is no better then when Steve took over is insane. Has anyone looked at the rosters from hollands last year and steves first it was a mess. I have concerns about what he’s up to but McCarty is right he’s not going anywhere. I don’t think Chris ilitch is remotely close to have the balls to pull that trigger and there is no way anyone will be calling for his firing at games by chanting

I get the frustration, but overpaying a Stamkos or something to that effect would actually set the build back. I like what they’ve done so far. Bring in Vlad and a couple solid third and fourth liners, keep Kane…and have room for some kids. Still have too many goalies and D, but that’ll work itself out.
And then we signed Tarasenko and all the Yzerman haters suddenly shut their mouths. Amazing what happens when people just let the man cook.
Of course Steve has a plan. But can we admit is not going as planned and behind schedule? The team is still not being coached to a high level. The results are that they are still just bad enough to make to not the playoffs.
Just like the Lions, (Which ended the season in SOL fashion!”) if I’m wrong I will gladly take that hit. But the wings are not winning the “Golden prize” in 3-4 years.
