People are wild. A few weeks ago many fans were complaining that not enough of the young prospects were getting a chance to crack the roster and now they're complaining we didn't sign enough players in free agency. Steve Yzerman needs to hire Ryan Gosling to stand in front of the fans asking them what they want.
Underwhelming is the word. Until a trade is made or someone is brought in to justify the walman trade, i will continue to be puzzled.
The goal of the day, similar to what was said, seemed to be: dont make mistakes. Dont saddle yourself with something that will hurt this team in a few yrs when it's hopefully ready to compete with the top, not just PO fringe.
Hope the goalies can push each other and we can have some consistency.
For me, this is the same as S.Y doing a rebuild about the rebuild that has been going on for a couple of years already.
I don't mind that we will probably see several players from GR playing in RW this year. I have already predicted that we will probably have a season that is a step back from the past two years of success points-wise.
Persists however, do all of those expensive contracts added in the last two years for average players. That a team like RW is without at least 4 ELIT players has problems with cap space is only S.Y's fault in the current situation.
We also lack an ELITE goalkeeper and most of us hope that one of the two we have in our pipeline will become one. We have 4 goalkeepers today, Campbell is probably meant for GR. So it may mean that we will go through a season with a minimal upgrade in Talbot.
On D we can see that Gustafsson replaces Ghost and that's okay as Gustafsson is better in the D-zone, however the team will be missing Ghost poinbts over 82 games.
Cat was signed at 8/7 last year, we have to hope that Trouba/Kakko for Copp is someone of value because I think Kakko will grow in RW instead of Rags. In the worst case, we will get some new average player because some team is over the cap for the overprice that is in the free market.
I think either Kasper or Danielson or both make the team. Resigning Fischer was a good move. Great checker and we need him on the PK. Gustofsson better on defense than Ghost, but not as good on the PP. Seider may get the point on the 1st unit. With 7 defenseman listed Holl will be a healthy scratch. I still can't figure out what they're going to do with Johansson. I wish they could dump Petry. The only thing I can see Yzerman doing at this point is making a big trade. I would love to see Petry and Copp involved in that.
Send Copp and Petry to CGY with some picks and get it over with. I get the no 'high picks' situation. But, the thing to do 2 years ago was deal Larkin at the line, the re-sign him as UFA and get some picks for that. What I have not seen at all is 19 'stockpiling' picks or if he does get them, he deals them. Wallman better have some sort of 'side issue' to justify that trade, we could say 'selling high' but, we attached 2nd to that deal. I think he thought having way too many D would help at the deadline, but, it didn't. This thing has been botched from the start, we didn't properly 'gut' the team like CGY and MTL etc. are doing and we will be paying for that. Now, if at least 1 pick from every year turns out to be stud like, we are fine. However, if you have 5 'legit' prospects count on 3,4 (and even sometimes) 5 of them not panning out at all (see Zadina or guys like Pulkinnen etc) Very impressed with Edv so that will help us, but how we dealt Wallman over Holl is just crazy. I'm guessing 19 offered 91 about the same deal, but… state taxes and NSH is a more well rounded roster than ours… right now. 19 went halfway vs scorched earth, went too fast and here we are… unless Danielson can walk in and tear it up with Berggren continuing to progress, we are, max a 10th place team considering our roster state and what other teams in east have been doing.
I will say that Seattle is further than Detroit. We are not sure if SY will play the young guys, so it furthers their experience and why try for the playoffs if you don’t have all the pieces and when he brings up the young players the team will regress more. I don’t see the team as a playoff team still with who they have now.
So let’s say they make the playoffs and then they don’t the next season it’s a one and done thing. The team needs to see what they have in their Prospects that are ready and i know 3 of them will be better than Veleno and Copp plus Ras. The team has to get a look and then if they are better SY then needs to trade those 3 asap. I still don’t see the team being a playoff team because Defense needs a lot of work. Especially the Goal tending

I think the signing of Cam Talbot is huge and E. Gustafsson is not a great offensive threat but a big upgrade over Gost defensivly.

Edvinsson, Simon wasnt good the first time he came up, he look a lot ,better edvinsson the second time.
F me in the B with a Salty Pickle.. this team is going to be a loser.
No way Kane even sniffs his bonus to make the playoffs 😂
there was no way Stamkos was even talking to Detroit after giving Yzerman multiple hometown discounts in Tampa.
