In today’s Habs Daily News video, Coach discusses the tough reality for the Canadiens’ prospects for the upcoming season. With many contracts already signed, Coach believes there are almost no spots available for new prospects.

The only forward likely to make it is Joshua Roy, who ended last season with the Canadiens, so his inclusion isn’t much of a surprise. It all depends on the combinations MSL chooses, and whether they start the season with 13 or 14 forwards. Lane Hutson is the only other prospect who might make the Habs roster this season.

At the end of the video, Coach asks how many points you expect the Habs to earn next season. Leave your comment below and don’t forget to subscribe and like.

  1. The Habs need to get rid of Armia, Dvorak, Anderson, Gallagher, Evans, Savard, and Barron to make room on the roster. I think the Habs can get around 85 points this season. They won't make the playoffs but would be competitive.

  2. Lane Hutson i believe will be a player in our Habs. I understand hes small. But our 2nd powerplay was VERY lacking this season. Now that this season we can move Newhook to PP2 and Roy to PP2. I think you pair that with a fantastic offensive defenseman in Hutson and you get a top 15 pp in the nhl. I think also that pp1 will see improvement. However, i dont know if he plays all the games. I see him having a similar season to Barron in terms of time in the NHL. His offense i think is already elite at the NHL level. He just needs to mature his defense and get more pounds.

  3. I believe the Habs can get up to 85-90 points. I know it sounds crazy. But i believe the Habs lost by 1 goal in regulation 7 times this season. If they won all those games. They would be 37-29-16. Thats already 92 points. Do i expect them to win every 1 goal game in regulation? No. But it shows how close we were to being at that next level. However, i expect Montreal to fall this season and land themselves superstar center James Hagens. I know. Crazy. But when you look at the additions weve made to our roster. Its A B B. You look at every team in the east. They either got major improvements or were already better then us. I see us finishing with 32-46-4 for 68 points and 2nd last in the NHL. I still think the Sharks are the worst team. I just think we cant rely on another season of us getting 16 ot losses.

  4. It is too early for this video. it's July 7th!! Huges is not finished cooking. There will be more trades

  5. Probably better for Beck and Kapanen to play regularly in Laval and Europe rather than sit in the press box. Should they develop spots will open up next year when Dvorak, Armia and potentially Evans are gone and the situation with guys like RHP and Andy is clearer.

  6. anderson has to go asap as well as Armia and dvorak to open up 3 slots and as much as Pezz is loved he has to go as he is not in future plans

  7. Coach I believe they can changle for a wild card but they have to get of to a good start and stay healthy easier said than done

  8. OK so start Anderson and Gally with the big club but if they don't perform well then dump them down to Laval and bring up some prospects.

  9. I said this even last year that the prospects have no chance of making the team. There was a notable player on laval last year Gignac who was playing very well and skating very well but when he was called up he was given zero chance to shine.
We got our team into this position by making trades instead of sticking with our own draft picks and TRUSTING our own system.
So far Dach is always injured Newhook is just an average player we could replace him easily .
The same goes for defense we should NOT have traded for Barron he is not that good and again easily replaced.I will repeat stick with your own system and TRUST it.

  10. Guessing the points is just a lucky guess because there are so many factors that come into play.I would say this we are NOT a playoff team but we are close NOT because we are a good team but more so because other teams are fading.Having said that teams like Detroit and New Jersey are going to be fighting hard and perhaps the Sabres as well so this leaves the Habs out of the playoffs again.

  11. Coach do you think Monty and Primea make a good tandem in nets because I do and if they have a bad year it won't be there fault

  12. Honestly Beck needs to start playing on the NHL this year if he is ready. I think he is close. Beck will be special teams. Best suited as 3 c and the main penalty killer. You have to give him a chance to develop his system by time we are ready to compete in 2-3 years. He needs to build his foundation now. His face off wins stats are crazy good. We really need to start thinking about the future

  13. Last year the Habs lost more games by one goal so if they can turn that around they could win maybe 8 to 10 more games games

  14. Coach, I disagree with your third and fourth line that's not going to get you anywhere near a playoff squat posetta has to go

  15. Kent has to get off his ass and make some moves for the kids to play. Team is going to be bottom 5 AGAIN next year which is fine, it's a deep draft. But you can't have this logjam.

  16. If they can only open up 1 roster spot they are both waiver exempt so the Habs should yo-yo Roy and Beck up and down from the NHL to AHL and give them a minimum of 41 NHL games + more due to injuries to other players.
