A Look at the Canucks’ Changes and Potential Lines for Next Season

I do think they’re still going to be a playoff team in 2025, but they need another defenseman or two.

  1. I do feel the team has gotten better, I think Debrusk is a upgrade in the top 6, I think Henin can replace what Lindholm did in the regular season and Sherwood is a fun pest to watch.
Agree with what you said Joshua should move up to the 2nd line which wasn’t really a thing last year so get him more ice time and maybe he fills that void of having one more guy in that top 6
At first I was ok with letting Zadorov go because of the overpayment for him but now am missing him the void he has left, not sure what move they can make at this point to upgrade the blue line.
Also was bummed they weren’t players for Tarasenko

  2. Im very happy with what they did for the forwards.

I liked the Myers contract it seems like a good contract compared to others. Fobert and Desharnaies make sense but not togother. Im a little worried thst Fabert and Soucy will get injured at the same time.

I line your line up im just not sure about splitting Joshua and Garland.

  3. Honestly, and take this with a grain of salt because my first year being a hockey fan was this last year, but honestly allvin picking up defenders with size makes me feel good about the direction we’re going in. He knows how to work with what he has, and if the best he can get is a couple mfs that can really punish you for moving the puck toward our net, that’s better than some less physical defensemen who are less skilled. I’ll hear it out. Allvin got a plan

  4. Don't give too much credit to Allvin and Rutherford. They inherited a Pettersson, Hughes, Miller, Demko, Boeser, and depth players like Garland, Hoglander, and Silovs. Much easier to build a team when you start with an all-star core, unlike the mess that Gillis left. Context, people, context.

  5. I feel good about this team but the team went through bad burnout by the playoffs. If they don't make the finals, it's ok. There is always room to grow.

  6. Good enough to win their share in the regular season.
Mgmt will bring in a RHD for the second pairing when available.

  7. Heinen Miller Boeser
    Debrusk Pettersson Garland
    Joshua Suter Hoglander
    Sherwood Blueger Podkolzin

    Hughes Hronek
    Soucey Myers
    Forbort Schultz

    Demko
    Silovs

  8. Defence core is this team's weakness for sure. Would love to see some of our prospects make the opening night roster like Lekkerimaki and Pettersson.

  9. Yep. All i have to say is i was completely wrong about JT. Miller. I thought his points would drop, thought his attitude would get worse, and thought he wasn't worth that new contract.

  10. Shannon, Alvin is such a relief after Benning (Mr. I Really Like this Guy, he was so good five years ago, I'll pay twice his current value) He is not trying to trick other teams. He is making common sense trades that work for the Canucks. Healthy Demko, healthy Soucy, Myers steps up a little bit based on solid coaching, and we could be a contender. I am so happy with the Joshua deal.

  11. Hoglander is the dark
Hourse this coming up season 20-25 . This is his season to make or break. My fav player on the ice. Always committed & ferocious on the fore check

  12. Good off season moves in general. Of course it would be nice to have Lindholm and Zadorov, when they did so well in the play offs, but no way for the contracts they got. Matching those contracts would have been a disaster.

When the Canucks signed EP40 for eight years, they were pretty much set and should aim for the cup some years away when 11M will look cap friendly for a player of his caliber. So as long as they don’t screw up with some long term risky/bad signings, the upcomming years look very nice for a fan of the team.

  13. I look at our ability to develop goalies and then be able to trade them for great returns. Could Silovs become a $5 million per year goalie under a $1 million contract?
    I think so.

  14. If this team can get 1 more solid defenseman without giving much up, they are going to be a problem. Forward lines are better than last years at any point.

  15. I 100% agree with you about not getting Genzel I also didn't want them and think it's a good idea. We got debrusk instead. I have absolutely nothing against him as a player. I think he's a great player, but given the Canucks needs and the fact that the Canucks did need two top six forwards putting nine mil and one guy just doesn't make sense. I'd rather have Jake + somebody else. Having too much money in our top three forwards our makes us too easy to shut down. I don't want to become another Toronto

  16. A very objective view as per usual; great synopsis.

I'm actually a fan of the Barrie train, let's just keep throwing darts after an overachieving season!

  17. huge fan of the forward group. but it's left a small hole in our defence. That means hronek and Hughes need to step it up this season if we don't find the man we need. Losing Zadorov is a moderate blow to our defence. but if we can increase the attack and rely on Demko as we have in the past then I think we'll still be in good shape.

  18. I think the moves they made were as good as they were going to get. I’m more impressed with their resistance to overpaying Guentzel or an equivalent.

  19. I think Suter could be moved for a bigger more physical player that is better at faceoffs.
Losing Lindholm and his dominant faceoff numbers is a hole they need to fill.

  20. Decently excited with who the Canucks were able to grab in free agency. I think this will be a bit of a step back year compared to the overachievement of last year. But I think the Canucks will be a better playoff team.

  21. Everything went right last year during the first half of the season and then fell off a lot and they were lucky to get past Nashville. A playoff team for sure but not competing for the division title.
