  1. The Bruins 100% improved via free agency but they had a lot of holes to fill and not all of them were

The biggest question mark is still their Top 6 scoring as all they really did in the Top 6 was swap out Debrusk’s offense for Elias Lindholm’s.

I’m not sure how that will help them score a crap ton more goals next year because …

Jake Debrusk the last two years combined, 47 goals. Elias Lindholm, 36, so…

I know Elias Lindholm is a center and Debrusk is a wing Bruins homers but again, they lost one Top 6 player in Debrusk and only brought in one Top 6 player to replace him. That's what happened.

Elias Lindholm will make Zacha and Pasta better and he could have a big bounce back points year. That should lead to a bit more offense and potentially much more than that.

However, the Bruins needed two Top 6 players and to be honest, that number was probably three.

Now they still have a Top 6 RW problem and the reality is. Charlie Coyle isn’t a Top 6 center either and come playoff time, that has been proven in spades.

    That Proof?

Charlie Coyle the last three post seasons combined totals:

-4 lousy goals and only one at even strength, ONE!!!

    -A craptastic -8 for a guy that’s supposed to be a two-way guy

-A craptastic 47% at the faceoff dot for a guy that’s supposed to be a faceoff guy

Those are NOT Top 6 center numbers, not even close.

So can we stop this nonsense that Charlie Coyle is a good enough 2c come the playoffs. He’s not.

Coyle is good enough in the regular season as a 2c, 100% true and then he’s trash come the playoffs and the STATS, so the TRUTH, homers, says so

The Bruins real Top 6 players right now?

Zacha (at wing because he’s not a Top 6 center either), Lindholm, Pasta and a 37 year old Brad Marchand playing on two bad hips who is beginning to decline

Seems like the Bruins are still short at least two Top 6 guys

And again Homers, Zacha is not a Top 6 center. He got ran out of NJ because he failed in that role. And the last two post seasons for Pavel Zacha?

2022-23 Post Season: Played mostly wing on Bergeron's line, only played center when Begeron got hurt

2023-24: Played either 2nd line wing or 3rd line center behind Morgan friggin Geekie

Zacha does not play center in the playoffs for Boston so can we stop that he's a Top 6 center too now.

And did we forget that Pavel Zacha has only scored ONE friggin goal in his entire playoff career!!! ONE!!!

The Bruins still have a Top 6 scoring problem people. That hasn’t changed.

Kastelic & Jones both move the Bruins closer to being more like Florida size and attitude wise and that’s a good thing

The same can be said about Nikita Zadorov who will not only make their blue line deeper and tougher to play against….

Hampus Lindholm won’t be in as many critical defensive situations any more, Lohrei will be given more room and time to develop in a less critical role and McAvoy will be less targeted and have less responsibility over all

All of these are good things but it’s also clear that the Bruins are still trying to win with depth down the middle, defensive execution and goal tending.

They 100% made moves that will help them be exactly that but to say come playoff time that the Bruins won’t suffer from some of the same offensive problems based that they have the past few playoff runs…

It sure seems as though that’s likely to still be a problem but it’s July. There’s a long way to go and they can always try acquiring other pieces in season

Although, if the Bruins keep pissing away all of their 1st and 2nd round picks, their farm system is going to continue to stink and be filled with far too many 4th to 7th round guys who 90% or more of, will never play a shift in the NHL.

So there's always that to be aware of and consider.

As for Georggi Merkulov- He's not a real NHL player. He's Jack Studnika Part II. He's not big or physical. He's not good on draws. He lacks NHL size and speed. Georgii Merkulov is an AHL tweener that will never be a regular player in the NHL for Boston or any other NHL team. And if Merkulov does make it one day, it won't be in any Top 6 role as a center for Boston or anyone else. He doesn't have the size, speed, defensive acumen, etc.. to play center at the NHL level

  2. Without listening to the video (and rephrasing the presentation): better on faceoffs, defense; center alignments through the lines; shutting down the opponent's top center; toughness; speed; not getting bullied; finishing checks; size; and having some more prospects in the line. By pairing Zaddy with Mac, they will improve their offense and powerplay..allows Mac to play his game. CC will do even better in the 2/3 C-slot, and he did very well last year. Their defense pairings have a big defensive guy and a guy to get the puck out. Rewind- they were short on this a few years back and then acquired HLindholm. (They overpaid MReilly from OTT to do something in this regard.) I am not buying the bit about having some "proven" 30-goal scorer in the RW slot all over. Note: teh dead stat people seem to want a 30+ guy in every forward slot, BUT…they didn't say that per se. Understand how ice time works. Dangle that in front of a player looking to make/up his career and that should be- it better be -inspirational! Lots of guys can get you 20 playing with CC and Marchy. Can they do the rest? Honestly, they addressed every issue I spotted and left the door open for a player to bump up. That's a refreshing change of pace!

  3. It's hard to say they are better. On paper they are worse. Elias Lindholm you hope has a better year then last. If he performs to his average about 20 goals about 60 points you are happy. But you lost 3 of your top 10 scorers in DeBrusk, Heinen, and JVR. Lindholm you hope will replace one. You hope that a full season of Poitras replaces another. I would have hoped a full season of Brazeau would have replaced the last but with Sweeney saying he intends to leave that top 6 slot open for Lysell or Merk that leads me to believe Geekie stays on the 3rd line which means Brazeau is probably the odd man out. You didn't sign Max Jones to not play him. Personally I don't think that makes any sense but it's a move they made for a reason.
No debate we are worse in goal.
And I'm not sure Zadorov brings you a lot more than Wotherspoon did. He's going to cost you 5 times as much so you hope he does. But I think he's an overpaid 5-6 dman. I also think they are going to feel compelled to give him top 4 minutes because of that cap hit and I think that's a mistake.
I still think we are probably a playoff team. But I think we took a step back. Now if a couple of guys have breakout seasons that might prove to not be the case. If Poitras is your number 2c fairly early and Coyle slots back to 3. If one of your Providence kids can come in a be an impactful top 6 winger. If Zadorov or Korpisalo can perform above their last couple of seasons. If Elias Lindholm can rebound to perform at his average. If Hampus Lindholm can bounce back. If Lohrei takes a leap. That might change the perception but as things stand now? It's not looking great.
