Some interesting news out of Dallas that they are going 100% FREE streaming for local fans. Out of town fans will have to use ESPN+, which all and all is great for out of market. Buffalo has a contract with MSG and that revenue is needed based on ticket sales but I wonder if Buffalo could put their own spin on this.

i wonder why more teams wouldn’t do this. maybe MSG pays more to the Sabres than they could drum up by running their own streaming and getting all the ad revenue for themselves, but i’d think you’d get more viewers that way and more viewers would allow them to charge more for ads. though the article says the average team gets $35m from Regional Sports Networks, so they’d basically have to bring in about $500,000 per game at least in ads.
edit: some napkin math here…if you factor in 15 ad breaks, each 3 mins long during games (3 per period / 3 per intermission) that’s $33,000 per ad break. that’s between $5,000-$10,000 per ad, depending on length (30-60 sec). seems like it could work? you’d also get the in game ads like “Carubba Collision” of the game.

I would 100% happily pay the Buffalo Sabres 20-30 bucks a month for access to all the games and exclusive videos. I despise that I need some massive package from a provider to watch them. I miss Empire Sports, would always watch that growing up.

Please can we do the same. šš½

As an out of market fan in southern Ontario Iād love to give the Sabres my money to watch their games on a legit platform and not stream them lol

Iāve looked to the MSG+ package, but besides an iPhone app thereās no way I can watch this on my TV. Thereās no firestick or gaming consul apps that I could find ?

Yeah no msg please

Translation: Absolutely no network was willing to spend even $1 on the broadcast rights.

I just want the MSG feed to look as good as other markets. How come I can view a 4K HD gif of a Calgary Flames highlight, but when I watch MSG it looks like trash?
