  1. Ivan Demidov (#11 blue) picked up 2 goals on 6 shots, +2, 16:51 TOI. Twice he just missed getting the hattrick, he scored the game winner in OT in game 5 in the previous series and his goal to break the 2-2 tie wins another series. Clutch!

    Goal 1:14

    Almost Sick Move 5:18

    Goal 6:14

    Almost Hattrick 8:07

    Great Steal/Chance 14:54

I’ve watched all of these highlights and I commented on his touches which MSL will love. I am still most impressed by his play away from the puck. In the first video, I couldn’t tell why he seemed passive on some plays, but it actually looks like he is playing zone defense while staying open for a breakout pass. Zone defense is pretty tough because you have a part of the ice that you need to stick to and you can’t run around after the other players, they come to you.

No matter whether he has the puck or not, he seems constantly involved. Oddly enough, he reminds me of Gallagher in that he is always doing something. They are worlds apart in talent, with Demidov having the potential to break games. However I can see Demidov having the defensive growth that Gallagher had. SKA even uses him on the PK which I found promising.

I’m really excited to see him play for us.

  3. Okay so it’s not like I’ve watched a ton of CHL games but I did watch a few Memorial cups games and I did watch several WHL and OHL shifts by shifts videos of Sennecke, Lindstrom, Iginla and Beck. Am I crazy or is MHL’s level not that different??? It honestly pretty much feels like it’s about the same from these Demidov highlights, at least in the playoffs! What am I not getting?

I’m absolutely loving watching these. The full highlights are really worth watching — Demidov is not just scoring, he’s creating so many chances for himself and others. His anticipation and positioning/ability to find space and put himself in a good position to score is so fkn good. He weirdly reminds me of Caufield in how he finds space and anticipates the play to get open, just a 6 foot, puck-carrying version, with insane hands and a less precise shot.

Forgive my ignorance…. Are the MHL playoffs happening right now? It seems there’s a new one of these videos everyday. Thanks for posting!
