  1. What should be a key question here is: Is there another high-quality but under-the-radar first round pick like Cole that the Habs could scoop-up in the draft year of this first round pick?

  2. Don Waddell:
    – plays hard all with premium coaching staff
-Trades Alex Nedeljkovic as he wanted too much money (3.0) in exchange for a 3rd rounder
    – Decides to give F.Andersen coming off 2 poor seasons even more money…..
-Determines having a notorious locker room cancer in Tony Deangelo is a good idea
-Acquires KK for 6.1 and offers up a 1st and 3rd for him.
    Me: 🤨

  3. Montreal has already made it clear that Kotkaniemi is not in their plans for the future. So now, a team is offering a 1st round 'And' a 3rd round pick for a player that you think is best suited to sit in the press box. The pick that Carolina would be giving up is likely going to be in the 20's, it won't be the top 5 pick that Montreal wasted to draft him, but at least it's something… Obviously, whoever evaluated Kotkaniemi missed something? You rarely get a chance at a top 5 draft pick, you can't miss on them and blow the opportunity like Montreal has. Bergevin has lost twice now, first handing Carolina a no-brainer of an offer sheet on Aho which gives Carolina a bunch of cap space. Now, they are about to steal a top 5 pick from Montreal. If Bergevin had any sense, which I am quickly learning that he doesn't, he would take whatever he can get for this debacle and let someone else try on the next draft pick.

  4. Let him go. Anyone who agrees to a 20$ signing bonus just to troll his organization doesn't want to be there and habs will have trouble reaching a reasonable long-term extension. Time to admit it was a poor draft selection and move on.

  5. As a Hab's fan I let him walk. Deep draft next year, the Canes no longer have lost a few players including Dougie Hamilton, they could be a couple of injuries away from out of the playoffs and a top 14 pick.

  6. I like the move, it’ll make teams think twice about offer sheets, if they know the teams they move against will target them in the future.

  7. i think the canes are dumb because if montreal doesnt sign kk canes just gave up a 1st and 3rd round pick as well as overpaying a player thats max 1.2 mil

  8. I think Montreal is in a bad situation, since Danault sign with LA. Montreal has to sign him. Let's see what will happen in a week. Suspense music!

  9. I think I like this move, purely from a neutral POV here. (also i ended up rambling here a bit, sorry)

Yes they overpaid him by about 3.5 mil while giving up a couple picks for him if MTL doesn't match. Carolina is one of the best teams in the league by my estimation and pretty young, so these would likely be later in the 1st and 3rd rounds. (plus they can probably afford to give these up with all the young talent they've got)

Also, Carolina doesn't HAVE to qualify him for the 6.1 million and to my understanding of RFA's you do have negotiating rights before all other teams and if he likes it in Carolina then they could sign him to a more reasonable contract, maybe even during the year. (playing in Carolina with that core is a pretty enticing incentive to take a pay cut)

People are mad about this and when people are mad they tend to overlook things. Carolina are not dumb, theyve managed to build a very promising team who are top 10 in the league in my eyes and they've managed to make the playoffs alot more consistently than MTL, in a small market. the difference between this offer sheet and Aho's is that MTL are vulnerable to this right now, they dont have cap space. They saw a vulnerability and took advantage and now they might get a 21 yr old centre, who's a 3rd overall pick, under their organization's control.

  10. Kotkaniemi should go where he's appreciated. Wasn't he touted as one of Bergevin's genius moves last playoffs? I have no doubt that the draft picks that Bergevin will make will prove out, and if they do show promise, he'll send them away. Bergevin is no genius. His plan just lucked out last playoffs. Do enough random crap, maybe you get lucky.

  11. there's one thing I dont understand, If montreal accept the trade, the canes will have KK for 6.1 Million?? look like a terrible trade for the hurricane, so why everybody say that trade is so savage and the canes takes their revenge? They can be the team who lost in this trade

  12. I like how Shannon just gets right to brass tacks. Typical YouTubers would extend this to a 10-20 min video but Shannon doesn’t waste time and I respect that

  13. even a 4m a year i still wouldnt mind him going away, so 6m… lol, what did they think?

  14. I'm not going into all the bs about this. I'm just happy if Kotkaniemi gets a chance in Carolina. It's a great team and might give him a boost.

  15. My thoughts is that if KK doesn't have such a hot season in Carolina, and given their depth at center position, they well might not sign him in the next off-season, at which point… eeh, maybe Montreal re-signs him at a lower price and gets him back again (which would be a bit of a middle finger to the Canes, in a sense…) but as of now, 6.1M$ for KK isn't worth it, even without considering the salary cap. The first round pick alone might make it worth it (it's a coin flip at this point, who knows how that player will pan out) so if I were Bergevin, I'd let KK take a vacation down south and see later what happens with him.

  16. LET HIM GO….hABS DON'T WANT A BABY…SEE YA, YOU MIGHT BE A BUST ON THAT SHIT TEAM….LEAVE…..habs …take the draft picks
