  1. IMO, they've improved their goaltending, they've improved defensively, they've lost offense. I think the overall record will be close to last season's, probably a bit worse, and they miss the playoffs again. I predict that Kane will likely be dealt at the trade deadline.

  2. You guys talk about abdelkader howard and Neilson a lot… they were so bad you don’t even mention Ericsson and dekyser who also had horrible contract and were endlessly injured. The lightning made the cup final in 2015 I think

  3. Reminder than TB won a cup from a bottom feeder team 10 years after Yzerman took over. And, as noted, he didn't start in a hole at TB like he did in Detroit.

  4. NFL draft picks can make a much more immediate impact than NHL draft picks, unfair comparison.

NHL kids are drafted at 18 and NFL kids are drafted out of college ~21 years old….

  5. There really aren’t any teams that have made a huge jump in our conference since Yzerman took over. Maybe 1-2 in the entire league. This game takes time. Enjoy the ride Detroit. And stop disrespecting the goats name.

  6. Guy in the Lions shirt should never be involved in a hockey discussion if he has no idea what he's talking about half the time…

  7. they were 5th and 5th in the east for quite awhile last year. A couple bad injuries and we would of been better off. Losing Larkin hurt.

  8. I don't get the Talbot signing. Coming from Alberta and seeing him in Edmonton this could be a mistake and waste of money.

  9. Decent prospect pool but there's still no elite talent. Not Yzerman's fault with bad draft luck. Gonna need that elite goal scorer but easier said than done. Need a true 1C. Larkin is good but a 2C on good teams

  10. Who is the moron in the Lions shirt??!!! You might want to stick to talking about football and listen to Uncle Neal, he is spot on in this case! Hockey draft picks generally take 2-3 years to make it to the bigs. NFL players are typically impactful in their first year. Hockey 101 brother… How are you even on a sports show??

  11. I have a feeling the team heading into the season will be more consistent. I think they’ll definitely be in the mix for a playoff spot.

  12. This team was gonna take at least 5 years to turnaround, knowing that Holland left it in Cap Hell with only 4 players on the roster that had real NHL Value (Larkin, Bertuzzi, Mantha and Hronek). 3 of those players were traded out for some good returns. the only thing that went wrong that Yzerman couldn't predict was Vrana, which he would still be a great middle six scorer if he kept his head straight. Worst part is the prospect pool was non existence when Yzerman came aboard so he had to replenish that as well as building an actual NHL roster.

  13. People who don't know puck need to stop commenting on the Yzerplan.

    1) Not signing big name free agents is often a good thing because most of the WORST deals in hockey are made on July first. If you look at the top free agents in hockey over the years, most of them don't win ships (Tavares in Toronto, Johnny Hockey in Columbus, for example)

    2) NHL drafts 17-18 year old kids while the NFL is drafting people ready to make an impact immediately. Simply put hockey players take longer to develope especially goalies and defense.

Ultimately it takes time to build a serious cup contender in the sport.

  14. The biggest problem is that people who don’t follow the NHL but follow their local team don’t understand how long hockey rebuilds take. They don’t get it. They just see the NFL and think it can take 1-2 years if you get a QB. Add no lottery luck and it’s worse. They got one of the best prospect pools in the NHL. Again blinded by the NFL. It’s not the same sport or league but they want to pass blame because they have ADD. They need another 1-3 years.

  15. One huge point you missed for the NHL vs NFL debate: players going into the NFL draft are 20+yrs old. Players going into the NHL draft are 17-18yrs old

There’s a lot of growing these young players have to go through before they sniff NHL ice unless your name is Connor McDavid, Connor Bedard, Auston Matthews

Also – The NFL has more players than the NHL entering the draft and selected from the draft. NHL 224 NFL 257 this past draft

  16. The guy trying to say it's been too long is a fcking moron, this is not football you don't just draft a 1st rounder and BOOM he's your new center, that's not how hockey works jagoff. You have to develop the players over YEARS much like BASEBALL is. His argument is that he flipped the bad contracts in 2 years which leaves 4 years with no results, he's still not understanding the point, even when you directly SAY IT to his effing FACE. THE BEST ASSET HE INHERITED WAS FILIP ZADINA… I mean.. Good GRIEF… Does he have to paint a picture for you?! Seider/Raymond is his first draft class which would mean…what exactly…come on big brain…you can do it…I know you can do it…come on…

  17. Tarasenko is not 6’1. Listed as 5’11 or 6’0 depending on where you look. And listed heights for hockey players are almost always exaggerated by 1-2 inches. But he is solid. Built like a brick shit house.

  18. Is Edvinsson a replacement for Jake Walman or Ghost? Still need another Right Handed Defenseman. Since, Trouda cares more about his wife's career than playing professional hockey.

  19. Guy in the Lions shirt should never try to speak about hockey again until he understands it fully. You don’t come on a broadcast speaking on a situation or sport you don’t know fully about. Yzerplan is going how any true hockey fan/player knows it’s supposed to pan out. Just like he probably hasn’t realized that every year, they’ve either got more points or finished with the same amount as the prior. Never gone backwards. His situation in Tampa was a cake walk for someone with his hockey IQ. It takes time to rebuild a dynasty with what he was handed when he came to Detroit. He’s building them back correctly and they eventually will be contenders for years to come.

  20. Me, still confused on where these casuals complaining are getting 6 YEARS from. Steve Yzerman was hired April 19th 2019. That means he's been in the front office for 5 years. People are lying and tacking on an entire year to fit their pointless narrative.

  21. Actually, SY drafted Vasy(with the 19th pick that he fleeced Holland for Kyle Quincey nevertheless😭) and he also drafted Kuch(in the 2nd round). He also drafted Brayden Point in the 3rd round.

  22. It's simple. They said it perfectly. Each sport is different and Yzerman walked into a much better team in Tampa. But also, the simple fact is that the year is 2024. It isn't 2002 anymore. The 2004 lockout completely ruined the game in many ways including signing players to contracts.

  23. A whole lot of "buts" from Lions shirt over here. Someone makes a good point, he then says "i understand, but.."

So what hes saying is "i havent heard a word you said. You make a good point, but ill complete ignore it"

  24. Lions shirt guy isnt real. He's just there to disagree. It's funny though because he's exactly like some of these dudes on social media that don't understand hockey but are complaining like they do 😂

  25. This argument is so bananas🤦‍♂ Anybody that doesn't understand the Yzerplan has very low intelligence. These people do not take into account the absolute dumpster fire Holand left SY. If SY started for scratch, thats one thing, but he started from the deep hole he inherited. He started behind the 8ball right away. It was gonna take 3 years just to fix the cap situation. then it was gonna take another 3 years to fix the roster. Me being a logistics/analytical guy, I looked at our situation and gave SY 6 years till we climbed out of the hole, and looks like Im spot on.
BTW: SY is not immune from criticism. The Chariot, Copp, JT, Holl, Petry additions/contracts were completely unnecessary and IMO ridiculous. I am still scratching my head why SY overpaid and over-termed Copp and JT back to back years while drafting Kasper and Danielson back to back at the very same time. Still makes no sense. The Copp contract already hurts and the JT(even though he's the better signing of them all) will hurt soon, considering their much cheaper and likely better replacements are about a year away from being in Detroit.

  26. How do sports talk guys not realize that you can draft for position in nfl and it usually takes 3-5 years for hockey prospects?

  27. I've been playing hockey for 20 years, juat to preface what im about to say. It is ok to question Yzermans moves. Last year he signed a bunch of free agents to the point that not 1 of his prospects came up to play last year. This year, Yzerman has done the same thing. If you're planning a youth movement, you can't keep signing free agents and not bringing up the youth. You will then just be Ken Holland overripening his players. If you're also planning on bringing up guys like Kasper, Mazur, Danielsson, Sandin Pelica, etc. You also can't do it all in one year and not expect regression.
Another point, Yzerman has 7 goalies signed between the NHL and AHL. Why would you not question that? If you think that's ok, then you're just following Steve blindly and, to you, he can do no wrong . . . Ever.

  28. Most football players are 22 when they are drafted and they play right away, hockey players get drafted at 18 and play when they are around 22 generally so same age when they join the team but drafted wat earlier

  29. In Yzerman I trust. I've heard the doubters my whole life. He gave detroi5 stanley cups as a player, and Mo Seider as a GM. First two years were a wash due to cap moves.
