[Expected Buffalo] How Ruff Could Utilize The Sabres’ New-Look Bottom-Six

  1. I am excited about having a bottom 6 that can actually grind out puck possession, and give our skill guys line changes with momentum. It seemed like the entire last season our bottom 6 was just chasing the puck the entire game, and then our top 6 had to go try to scramble for possession.

Having waves of positive possession from every line is so critical to breaking down defenses.

Stanley cup incoming. But for real actually optimistic here I think were gunna figure out how to get some level consistency and a McLeod Benson Greenway line could probably add some scoring imo maybe McLeod just needs a skilled winger to add some offense to his game. Dude is still very young

Is there anybody that thinks we didn’t totally screw Granato by not doing this last season ? Otherwise I think KA seems to have made the best of a very challenging situation.

Malenstyn: We’ve needed this type of role player forever. On the surface we overpaid with a second rounder, but, considering how we acquired that second and that we still managed to draft a stud after the trade down, I’ve gotta give Kevyn props for creativity.

Lafferty: Solid pickup and Lindy type player that is going to make us better.

Zucker: Love that we actually threw money at a guy on a one year deal. Have always been a big fan of Zucker, and like the high reward potential with virtually no risk. However, having been through similar deals before with Staal and Hall, I’m ready to be hurt again and not holding my breathe for him to make a top six impact.

McLeod: I’m still coming around on this one. I’m completely sold on what we’re getting which is (hopefully) a younger Boone Jenner that can take the defensive pressure off of our top six and can also fly. The price tag still does not sit well with me. There had to be a better way to steal a player that EDM didn’t want on their roster anyway. If we acquired Malenstyn for a 3rd/4th and McLeod for a 2nd, I’d be worshipping KA all summer. Giving up a top 10 pick that’s met expectations (imo) for a bottom six has the potential to easily blow up in our face.

Aube-Kubel: Nice add, can skate and hit. I think folks are getting a little too excited as far as the impact he’s going to make. Reminds me of being excited for Tobias Reider to be a Sabre.

At the end of the day here are what I think are the biggest factors to us making the playoffs:
    – Improved coaching and players buy in
    – Cozens/Tage/Tuch bounce back
    – Byram/Sammy/Quinn health
    – Goaltending
    – Bottom six improving special teams
    – Most importantly, and this ties back to the first point, giving a complete effort from the beginning of the season as soon as soon as the puck drops. I am so sick of this team having shitty first periods and shitty Novembers only to almost dig themselves out of a hole and then be unsuccessful. Lindy will hold them to a higher standard, which is what they all claimed to want at the last locker clean out. Now DO IT
