uh so obviously been out for most of the past week yesterday we spent a good chunk of the show on Jaylen Brown’s Team USA snub so I didn’t get a chance to chime in at all regarding uh Matthew judon apparently being pissed that he didn’t get an extension from the Patriots this offseason on the one hand I kind of can’t blame him considering Elliot wolf has been handing out extensions like Halloween candy to pretty much everyone else on the team the last few months the most recent were galani Tay and rre Stevenson right um but even if you look at it if even if you’re on the wrong side of 30 like Matthew judon is you can get paid by the Patriots right now just ask David Andrews and Hunter Henry so again I get why Matthew judah’s probably pissed he can even use some numbers to help his case the Patriots were tied for fourth in the NFL a couple years ago 54 sacks then the team total sunk to 27 to the league with just 36 last year with him being injured so see the numbers can back me up give me my money but on this one I side with the team he’s 32 he’s coming off a bad injury he’s also disappeared every single December that he has has been hurt since he got here and the later the season gets the more Matthew judon disappears that’s fact just look at it and so also if you’re Elliot wolf you look at maybe how Anthony Jennings played last year you also hope you make get more out of Keon white in year to they are rebuilding you need future picks you can get a fourth you can probably get a third for him right now there’s a recent comp the Eagles did this with Hassan reic back in March you they sent him to the Jets for a third rounder in 2026 that could become a second round round pick if specific terms are met if you can get that from one of these teams throughout the league from Matthew judon that’s looking for a veteran pass rusher you do that 617 779 985 again is your number you call them whatever you want I do want to do some Patriots today because we haven’t done a lot of Patriots all week long so I do want to turn to the Pats judon is one of the the news year items on the team as it stands right now I think Joe Murray also has a Patriots item yeah mine’s more betting related but it’s about who will be the one starter for the New England Patriots and let’s just I’m going to tell you right now guys Drake May is not going to be the quarterback week one the betting odds at the moment this was from BET online um it’s jacobe Brett minus 265 to be the week one starter for the Patriots so for the average better that’s $265 to win 100 that’s it’s pretty high odds there but I don’t think there’s a chance that Drake May is the quarterback and that it bothers me like I want the team to be competitive this year and even if he comes out guns blazing and looks like the number one guy he will not be the starter week one but if you want to bet on it his odds right now are plus 180 I wanted to bring you back to the 2021 season when M Jones was the underdog and Cam Newton was the favorite M Jones won the battle and it was it was disgust right Bill belich all along said that Cam Newton was going to be the guy he won that battle but I wanted to just match up some of the other rookie quarterbacks Bo Nicks is favorite to start in Denver right Jared stm’s probably in the running for that as well and then JJ McCarthy that everyone loved around the draft he’s plus 300 to back up Sam darnold I just have a problem with these I I want these quarterbacks to play right away I saw what CJ stra did a year ago and although the betting odds tell you that it’s because the Patriots are telling you they want this kid to sit and to grow and whatever he does this preseason even if he’s perfect he will not be the starter week one and I just feel like that’s going to be a a topic of discussion here day in and day out he could be the best and he’s not going to going to be the quarterback and I just think it’s a Bad Bet if you do bet Drake May so you believe that you believe there’s nothing he can do to start week one do you I I don’t and I’ll tell you if jacobe brassette gets hurt it’s going to be bayy zappy week one okay so no matter what it’s it’s not going to be Drake May that’s what I’ve been told yep you’ve been told that by multiple insiders that we have on the show at night multiple insiders love it no matter what he’s not playing because of him what if he’s not ready Joe Murray he might not be I mean he’s we’ve heard that he might not even get plays in on the Huddle do do you want exactly do you want him to play if he’s not ready I mean I I understand the the point of him sitting there’s been a track record of of players who sit I just think jacobe Brett’s going to give you nothing if you play jacobe brassett or bayy zappy you’re team’s going to suck which is another reason why I think they’re going to be the worst team in the NFL this year okay so my Patriots opening thought is on Gerard Mayo uh training camp uh rookies report a week from tomorrow did you know that a week from uh today I think actually a week from today if I’m not mistaken and then full veterans like the First Media day is uh a week from this coming Wednesday so we’re closing in on it Tommy Kern’s been writing stuff at NBC Sports Boston about best case worst case scenarios for various uh facets of the team and he got to the coach and best case and worst case and I’ll get into all of that but uh we started to talk about it last night on TV and and one thing that I I I will just before I dig too deeply uh into it giving my thoughts on it I think people have to realize this wasn’t really the plan it wasn’t the plan this is not what the crafts had envisioned I mean I asked Tommy last night if the crafts could do this all over again do you think they might and you know take a different path and do things differently and he said definitely 100% And I agree and let me just tell you what what what I mean by this when they promised Gerard Mayo the job before last year you know what they thought they thought that M Jones was G to come back and be a good quarterback and a good player because Billy O’Brien was here so they thought that they would be a good team that bill bich would be closing in on schula’s record they would have whatever a representative season 10 wins nine wins 11 wins somewhere in there was was is what I bet they were thinking was sort of like a baseline that would put Bill belich halfway to Don schula M Jones would have been resurrected under um Bill O’Brien that means Bill bich coaches this upcoming season 2024 he sets the record M Jones is solidified as the franchise quarterback things get even a little bit better and now Gerard Mayo steps into a ready-made situation with a team that has a foundation and is on the ascent which is the is where you would put the uh firsttime head coach positional coach linebacker coach that’s when you would put him in that situation that’s when that make makes sense right he makes no sense in it with a rookie quarterback and a complete rebuild he makes no sense in this situation to me I’m not I also Joe I’m not high on the team it starts with the coaching and the coaching decisions and everything that they’ve built up around the roster never mind the roster itself which blows uh it’s this whole thing and it’s because they set they set Mayo in there and they had a whole different idea of what it was going to they thought by the time we got this year M Jones would be good Billy O’Brien’s entrenched bill bich is five wins away or whatever from Catching Don Schuler and they’re talking about which game is it going to be and they’re planning out their ceremony and then in 2025 Mayo takes over with Billy O’Brien running half the team and they don’t need to draft a quarterback and off they go yeah there was going to be a year of handheld essentially and now he’s being thrown right into the fire and if you do look at it from 30,000 ft it does feel like you know that Gerard Mayo is probably going to be relying on a lot of veterans or some of the veteran pres someone like David Andrews to kind of help coach up this team which he had to do anyway by the way just in these last couple years when Matt Patricia was also trying to run the offensive line and the offense and how well did that work out so yeah the more I think about it because at the time I’m like well this almost feels offensive that the Patriots are being looked at by Vegas and the betting Community as like wow they could be as bad as Carolina it can’t be that bad can it no it it might be that bad yeah I mean but I I I just Gerard Mayo is here in a situation that they did not intend for this to be his entry into head coaching this is not because this isn’t the guy you would hire for this situation I don’t think and uh that’s scary Mike that scares me even more now but I mean don’t you think I mean I mean you just talked about if Drake May is not ready Gerard Mayo might not be ready at all if this is the case it it might even be worse now than I felt about it like four or five wins how about two or three wins now after you talking about it Drake May their only chance this year to be interesting or you know to have a he’s got to just be you know legit right out of the shoot and the ODS are against that hardly anyone ever is if you like that clip
