@Edmonton Oilers

I just don’t see it.

  1. Best case scenario for Edmonton is they win the cup this year. Because either way they are in trouble going forward. If both Leo and McDavid re-sign, their cap is going to be a nightmare.

  2. If you are a casual observer of the Oilers I guess it makes sense to be all, "Leon is moving to a no-tax state as soon as the opportunity arises" but if you're familiar with his story (the fact that he's been in Western Canada since he was 16 years old, that the Oilers got in on the ground floor with his first standard contract and showed faith in him, that the Oilers are a wealthy organization that provides lots of perks, the whole double date best friend situation he and McDavid have with their fiancées, that as long as you can handle winter Edmonton is a nice place to live actually, and most importantly, that the Oilers are WINNING), it's pretty clear that he's staying

  3. He loves being an OIler and he loves playing with his best bud McDavid and the rest of the group. This isn't a Gaudreau situation because the OIlers have a good lockeroom and better management. Calgary was/still is a toxic environment, you can see Conroy making strides to fix that already by axing guys who dont' wanna be there.

  4. He's got to get at least as much or close to the Matthews deal. Austin and Leon are 1-2 in goals scored the last few seasons. Leon consistently gets 100+ points per season.

  5. I had a dream that they lost game 7 Stanley Cup Final again, for the second time in a row and first time in history to lose twice in a row like that. I can't recall the team that they lost to, in my dream, just the emotion. 😂

  6. I’d like to see McDavid and drai both sign 8 year deals and retire in Edmonton. They deserve it and the fans love them. Even if by the end of their deals they’re not worth it on paper anymore idc these 2 are like Crosby and malkin or ovi and backstrom. I wanna see em together on this team forever as a fan.

  7. I think he will be the highest paid player and it will be at least 13 million per and it will be for 8 years. I can't see him taking 4 years and gambling that he'll be a top player 4 years from now with too many things that can go wrong.

  8. one thing EDM im sure is really considering is, is Drai worth massive money? is anyone? yes Draisaitl is one of best in the league, but Reinhart signed for 8.5, guenztel for 9, stamkos 8, you can get almost same production from guys making way less. Even if Mcdavid and Draisaitl are the best players in the world, if you give them all your cap you will never win. so whats the point? whats better for the team?

  9. Hey man, been following your channel for a while now and honestly I love your approach and takes. Regardless of if I always agree or not, the way you approach it is such a breath of fresh air in the youtube space and it's nice to hear how you try to always give the most informed opinion with all the information.

Keep up the good work out there and I look forward to more of your content. You're awesome!

  10. It all comes down to if the Oilers are able to win that one extra game this year, cuz that's the only way that they can do any better than they did this year. If the Oilers get bounced in the second round or the WCF like they did the prior two seasons and this pass season was somewhat of a fluke, then there needs to be a serious talk about what the direction is for the team. These are all really big ifs obviously, but the team can't stay one game away forever

  11. people need to stop thinking draisaitl took a discount his contract at the time was a heavy overpay and was a huge gamble

  12. It’s funny, you cited both MacKinnon and Pasta extending 8 years after being on value AAV prior but for Drai you limit it to 4. Seriously getting sick of people wanting him to emulate Matthew’s as if he’s some mercenary player

  13. Oilers don't have a choice but to pay him the players already gave the org a good deal the last contract plus I think even if the players give a org friendly deal again they might not be well liked in the NHLPA it's bad enough the NHL is the lowest paid major pro sport league. too have the 2 best players on the planet to get paid less than other superstars that don't come close too their caliber will not sit well with other players. That's just a theory though but giving that theory Dri should be getting paid minimum 13mx8yrs and McDavid at minimum 15mx8yrs that's why I don't think they can keep both. maybe they can do shorter terms but these guys have too get paid big time for future contracts of superstars that deserve the lucrative contracts. And if you don't think the NHLPA and Owner's aren't watching these contract signings in particular think again.

  14. Draisaitl 14m+ aav, McDavid 16m+ aav, Bouchard 9.5m+ aav. Anything less than those you're hoping for too much. The way of the cap.

  15. He can make 40-50 million more overall with another team. It's a business, team loyalty means shit when it comes to providing for your family and your children's children. He's probably going to push for 14-16 million a year. He is not staying with the oilers, they cannot afford him

  16. I hope Leon understands that part of the reason he pits up the points he does is because he plays the pp with Conner and sometimes 5 on 5. On another team or no Conner, he isn't putting up those numbers.

  17. You should talk about the guys who nobody talks about. Grinders, heart and soul guys, defensive D-men and bottom six.
I always liked Nate Thompson. Put together a 700 plus game career as a face-off specialist and special teams guy. He's retired now AFAIK but teams need those guys. The players NOT going to The Hall.

  18. 13×4 seems pretty fair, and I can't see Edmonton going any higher with the McDavid contract looming. It's going to depend on how hard a bargain Leon decides to drive

  19. Remember that when the Oilers went down 3-0 in the series they effectively lost the series with a 92% chance to lose. They didn't just lose the cup by 1 goal. They lost it by 92% odds against as well.
