It would be really nice to accrue cap space for once. Not having to pay to move money out to make a transaction is such an advantage

    >As of now, the Canucks have 14 forwards listed on their active roster. That does mean that one of them will have to be moved of the roster in some capacity at some point, but we will get to the variables in a moment.

I tend to disagree with this right off the bat. Last season the Canucks ran 2 RHD extra’s with Cole being a LHD playing the right side, that was a lot of flexibility to make that work. This was combined with having a lot of waiver exempt forwards who could be called up and re-assigned smoothly. It meant they could leverage their waiver exemptions on forward to fill gaps while also leveraging their 4 LHD in the top 6 to create flexibility (flexibility that we didn’t have before Zadorov and went absolutely terrible when we had Friedman playing the off side for a short period leading to that trade).

This season we have an entirely different situation. We have multiple forwards like Aman and Podz who are no longer waiver exempt that we would like to hold onto if possible. The team avoided waiving PDG all last year and I think will be keen to avoid waiving him unless they have to this year. I don’t think the team is nearly that concerned about losing Friedman on waivers and really needs a spare lefty if they were to run 2 spares – I’d expect we might see D-Petey (waiver exempt) or Breezybro called up.

It’s mind blowing how far this team has come since hiring Rutherford and Allvin.

Would we ever just have two players in the press box to save more space? And can they send players down to the minors between games to save more too?

Getting this kind of flexibility so soon with a competitive team is a miracle

I still think it would be massive to get out of Poolman’s contract. If we can move him to a team already operating in LTIR that has a player costing roughly 2mil AAV that falls out of favor during camp it would benefit both teams (I keep looking at Bear in Washington as this guy).

If we did that we could in theory run a 22 man roster and have about 2.5mil in cap space. Depending on roster moves throughout the season (let’s say we average 1.5mil of space from now to the deadline) we would accrue about 7mil in space come the deadline.

That number goes way up if we are able to accrue 2-2.5 mil on average it could be between 9 and 11mil of space come deadline.
