On today’s episode of Locked On Stars, Sam Nestler joins the show to discuss all things Dallas Stars offseason! In part 1 of our conversation, Sam shares his story on the relationship of Jake Oettinger and Scott Wedgwood and how Wedgewood’s departure could play a role in Otters play next season. Joey asks for Sam’s perspective on the Stars Free Agency and the signings of players like Ilya Lyubushikin, Matt Dumba, Brendan Smith and more. In the next segment, we look at the next contracts of certain players like Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin who will be 35 for their next deal, Jake Oettinger who will look for a long term deal after next season and Thomas Harley who is still looking for his bridge deal. In part 2, Sam and Joey continue to look at the Dallas Stars cap situation and how players fit into the future like Logan Stankoven, Wyatt Johnston etc. To wrap up the episode, Joey and Sam go back and fourth on the Ryan Suter buyout, Nils Lundkvist and where they see the Stars finishing at the end of next season within the Western Conference.

I’m nervous about a long term big money deal for Otter.
Why wouldn't we consider moving Nils from D to Wing? Dude can skate and he'd have a defensive angle. With our development team seems doable. Perhaps this has been proposed and Nils shat on it?

I’m glad I found this daily podcast!, I am a diehard Stars fan living in Seattle. My family has been a season-ticket holder since 93 and I lived in Dallas until 2001. What a magical team and thanks for all that you’re doing for the fanbase. Keep up the good work.
I mean he was solid in the playoffs but let’s not forget the 3 goal leads coughed up, 3rd period let up, I mean aside from vegas game 7 stopping Stephenson breakaway and 1 of those first 2 road game against the Avs can anyone really say yeah Jake stood on his head or it was just our lack of offense or our D just didn’t contribute enough offensively but Otter was aces? Even the double OT against Avs parise completely whiffed on the crease rebound and gave Jake a chance to cover that space, the slot shot a few mins later it was Wyatt Johnstone stick that deflected the puck into Jake’s bread basket. And I hate to say this but in every series we had the goalie advantage yet here we are. Just not sold on him as the guy sorry. Start winning game 1s and I’ll feel better maybe.
Lunquist also was the setup man of the pretty Hintz goal against Avs in game 2
Joey , Harley scored a fair amount of his goals away from Miro. It was only when they got paired together that he deferred to Miro. And it carried over into the playoffs.
Dallas needs to decide if in fact he is one of the top 5 goalies and if they decide he is then you have to pay him. Goalies are the QB’s in the NHL
