Is Tanev the right fit in Toronto?

Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLennan discuss whether or not Chris Tanev is the right defenceman for the Maple Leafs and should they go long term with the veteran defenceman.

  1. Without a doubt, their agent Rich Paul talked to other teams, telling them not to take Bronny. I bet the common reply was "wasn't planning too"

  2. Again, with what cap space will the Leafs be able to pursue Chris Tanev if they keep Marner's $10.93M cap hit on the books?

  3. Hey TSN, you need to segment the timeline with what the hosts are talking about so we dont have to scroll for an hour looking for it…

  4. So long as the Leafs keep selling out every game, they will never win. Especially in the Mathews era. They sell out each game and use the core 4 for merchandising pretty much. That's all MLSE cares about is selling out the arena and merchandise, NOT WINNING.

  5. Toronto has no choice but to throw offers all over and see what sticks. When guys go Ufa they often prefer stateside and Vancouver is close to signing Zadorov. Is Tanev the best choice at 35? Not when he gets injured.

  6. Tanev will be 35 when the playoffs start next season. Great retirement contract for him to come home to Toronto.

  7. Noodles and O-Dog are right. Longer term is definitely the way to go with Tanev or any other stud player they bring on. If you low ball the guy too much he won't sign with the Leafs. Make the term and the $ are easier to fit into the cap. It could burn a bit, but the window is only open for a few more short years. Take advantage while we can.
