  1. Calgary fans, wait until Calgary gets into playoffs. That's when the fun starts with huby. Especially if you enjoy finding waldo.

  2. If Florida was going to lose Huberdeau and Weegar to free agency anyways, then they really only gave up a 1st rounder here. Now that's pretty crazy.

But then again that does not take away from the fact that even where Florida did not technically lose anything more than the 1st, Calgary still got a lot out of losing Tkachuk.

Huberdeau. At the time, he was a 100 point man. Now, it looks like he has the worst contract in the league.

Weegar has been excellent though, and I believe he will continue to do so.

So, they did get 2 roster players for the price of one. Even if those 2 roster players don't fill up the gap left by Tkachuk in offense, Weegar certainly makes up for it by lifting Calgary's defense to a whole new level. Huberdeau is not scoring 0 points either.

But c'mon. This is a win for Florida. Last year's run to the Stanley Cup final and Tkachuk Conn Smythe -level performance during said run have proved that.

Now I am not aware what that 1st round pick has turned into, if anything yet. But that, plus Huberdeau's ability to bounce back (not looking good at the Christmas break of 23-24 season…), Weegar's longevity and Tkachuk's future performance (also not at the same level currently as it was last season, but that is to be expected after a tough run to the SC finals) will be the determing factors of who will have won this trade long-term. Not to mention that these guys might yet still get traded around at some point. Perhaps we'll see a trade tree on this in 10 years.

Currently a W for Florida, but I'm not closing out the Flames just yet. Having Weegar is a good constellation prize in itself, but that 1st rounder will truly define the outcome of the trade in the end

  3. I'm a Canucks fan and I like Johnny Hawky. This was a big miss. Calgary should not have gotten older with this trade. Tkachuk is only 26 now. Trelivings biggest gaffe was making the deal buyout proof. He should be sued by the Flames
