This really upsets me . When you have talent like Zadorov who is a fan favourite you make it work when he wants to be here. They could have easily made 5 million work .

Zadorov was great here but the Canucks dodged a bullet by not signing him to that contracts. He has been a 3rd pairing guy his whole career but he happened to have a great playoffs.

Sure he wanted to stay but he was only interested seeking the highest amount he thought he was worth. We have star players who took pay cuts because they genuinely wanted to stay with the team.
Don’t doubt what Rutherford and Allvin are doing. Z is gonna crumble in Boston, just watch. Guy is not as good as some of you make him out to be. Doesn’t help that we’re still paying for OEL as well.
As much as I loved Zaddy, Allvin is thinking long term and has to prioritize the core more (Quinn, Brock, Demko) as their contracts will also need to be dealt with in the future. And then you have the secondary players that the fanbase love like Garland and Hoglander that have been with the team longer than Z that will need renewals/extensions as well.

Allvin prioritized players willing to stay at a reasonable caphit. See Blueger, Joshua and Myers all took less than what they got in the open market.
Blueger could’ve gotten $2.5 million for 2 years as a UFA but stayed at $1.8 million for 2 years.
Joshua is a hot commodity and rumour has up to 12 teams interested and could get north of 4 million for 4 years but chose to stay here at $3.25 million for 4 years.
Myers had a really good season last year and someone might’ve given him a Joel Edmundson type of contract to him but he stayed for $3 million for 3 seasons.
I think Canucks management loves Zadorov and Zadorov would love to stay in Vancouver. But Allvin hopes he would do the same as Myers, Joshua and Blueger to stay at a discounted price. At the end they couldn’t agree on a number and term that would work for both sides. As good as Zadorov has been in the playoffs, his career stats has always been one of a third pairing defenseman. I love his personality on and off the ice and I think he brings a lot of a swagger to the team. However, it’s hard to justify paying Zadorov $5 million to likely play on the third pair. This is just business, in a perfect world, I would love to have him back but we have to make smart cap choices to fill the roster.

Has to be trolling. All Canucks fans loved Zadorov’s time here. Anyone who understands the money and decisions of hockey knows that term is ridiculous. We would all be screaming for Allvin’s head by the end of the season when he’d have been a healthy scratch multiple times. By next year Boston’s fans will be calling the deal a boat anchor. Give your head a shake.

this is a really bad take. Why be so upset about this, Blueger was a vital part of the best third line we’ve had since 2011.
I’d rather have both Myers and Blueger, and still afford an adittional guy like Sprong than just Zadorov alone.

This is absolutely the take of someone who jumped back on the bandwagon last year when the team was good again and clearly never watched the first 11 years of Zadorov’s career.
