The NHL has a serious gambling problem

We need to talk about the update to the Shane Pinto situation and the NHL’s major gambling issues, we’ll talk about all that and more on today’s video!

  1. It’s so bad that your local announcing teams are giving the odds during the game on the game they are calling, it’s sick

  2. Someone snitched on him. Proxy betting is so widespread. How is it just him that got caught? Snitched on

  3. its so fucking hypocritical of the nhl to ban someone for gambling when, what? 70% of their ad revenue and team sponsorship comes from gambling sites now. i seriously wish i could buy the league. so much shit i would change.

  4. I'm sorry, what's that decal on their helmets? A gambling company?
    So hypocritical.
If he's not betting on NHL, there's no problem.

  5. Alcohol (a product that is far deadlier and more addictive) good. gambling a choice you make that hurts absolutely NO ONE outside the idiots that bet bad. Got it.🙄

  6. thjank you to you and other hockey youtubers that REJECT gambling sponserships!

(hockey junkie as well, great intergrity)

  7. Gambling has always been under control in Canada. I’m not sure who got paid but the gambling is now so easy to access you can make bets while taking a shit.

It’s dangerous and people can ruin their lives without ever stepping out of their house.

  8. NHL fans should quit watching games and supporting the league until it steps back from the gambling industry. Of course, that will never happen as people are sheep [see all those who have been supporting the DemonCrat Party in the U.S. despite that party's history]. The league punishing a player for betting is a joke considering it is all in with the industry. Buty hey everyone, let's keep supporting garbage while wondering why the garbage heap keeps growing by leaps and bounds with people becoming totally deranged and unconnected to reality.

  9. The broadcast commentators make statements on their betting choices and the odds. They never actually put their money down but try convincing the audience that they have their own special predictions. I don't care about the advertising on commercials, merchandise and arenas. The networks blatently lying to the viewers that this is 'thier pick', when in reality have no intentions of placing a bet.

  10. Sports in general have a serious gambling problem.

I'm surprised we haven't seen it in hockey yet – players who did absolutely nothing wrong during a game, yet will still have gamblers mad at them because their actions affected the spread. (As if players are supposed to play with the spread in mind…)

For example… your team is up 3-1 in the dying seconds when your opponents have their goalie pulled. You're given the puck and have a wide open lane to the empty net. You then score on the empty net. 4-1. Exactly what any hockey player would do in that situation, right?

Now imagine some gambling addict flooding your social media DMs with hate messages, claiming that by scoring that goal, you had cost them a giant sum of money since they had bet your opponents to cover a +2.5 goal spread.

  11. All the leagues going “don’t gamble but sell our gambling partners for us” is the biggest double standard. It’s sickening.

As for Pinto. Once they proved he wasn’t betting on NHL it should have been a fine or a small suspension not half a damn season. Not because it was gambling but because he was proxy betting which is a legal issue.

  12. Gambling addiction epidemic is now, the Sports Leagues will be summoned to testify before congress in the very near future. I'd set the o/u at 4.5 years.

  13. It’s crazy to see man. I remember before there were ANY ads for MGM betting, etc. and then all of the sudden, in like every league, those ads started popping up and they started sponsoring teams & arenas. And now there are major channels of sports networks where they show the betting splits/over-unders – those aren’t just weird corner channels anymore, they’re main stage. I hate that companies like MGM betting have such a huge hand right on the face of major league sports in the US now. It is agreeably disgusting.

  14. Respect. Gravitech or wtv doesn’t share your principles. He gets huge amount of cash just to promote addiction. Having the option of making more money doesn’t mean it’s illogical to refuse. It’s such a basic idea that I see escapes many many people when trying to “defend” wtv creator they like. Oh and you can like someone while still having disagreements; it’s called living in society.

  15. i am surprised gambling is not treated like smoking no advertising allowed hopefully one day

  16. I’ve been hoping someone would make a video about this, and here you are! Thanks for shining a light on this issue

  17. Front Office Sports has been digging into this and according to FOS, Canada has no national ban on match fixing (IE it may not be illegal for Canadian players on Canadian Teams to rig games for betting purposes)

  18. As a society, we have replaced Tobacco and Alcohol promotion to going all in on Gambling… Apparently vices that dont directly effect your health are ok now…

  19. SAFT of all the gambling ads. I get that the league wants the cash but it makes games nearly unwatchable. I only paid to see playoff games and I hated it. Starting to think that the NHL just doesn't mean that much to me any more, and that's sad as I've been a lifelong fan.
EDIT to add: I'm also sick to death of the animated CGI board ads. I'm okay with the board ads per se, but damn it literally interfered at times with my ability to track the puck.

  20. Wow bro, i feel like you really upgraded the quality of the montages you make, i saw it right away tbh

  21. Should be illegal for NHL NBA MLB etc to sponsor gambling. It’s even more sad with the NHL. They know they’re losing viewer count and popularity so they’re trying to take advantage of an addiction to get people interested in their sport. Maybe focus on actual marketing and you wouldn’t need 20-30 ads of sports gambling a game to grow your sport. They market gambling better than the market Mcdavid….

  22. 1:25 ya I’m with you on that point my son is just starting to watch hockey and I’m not pumped that every other commercial is a gambling commercial. And no more ads on jerseys I’m so sick of that these are NHL jerseys this isn’t the ahl or juniors

  23. I predict at some point some major gambling scandal will hit one of the big four leagues where it will seriously damage their credibility. I figure referees would be the most likely culprit since they're paid so much less than players but the NBA already showed that fringe depth players can also have a financial incentive and I figure assistant coaches and front office personnel could also be involved. The leagues are probably aware of this possibility but might be "gambling" themselves in that if one of the four get nailed on something like that the other three can quickly distance themselves from the gambling sponsors. So the odds are 3/4 that you'll be fine which isn't too bad and until that day comes they can squeeze enough money out of these deals as they can.

  24. Nothing new, don't be thinking they don't bet on NHL games using strawman. Just look at the Stanley Cup final…. betting on Edmonton for 4-5-6 would get one a fortune, and betting on Florida for 7, another…

Anything and everything is allowed but getting caught. The NHL has had no integrity for decades… they decide who wins.

  25. 5 out of 10 commercials is a gambling ad, teams can have gambling sites sponsor them and they can even show the logo on their Jerseys.

    It’s ruining the sports community.

Crypto and Gambling is getting jammed down our throats in obscene levels.

  26. It's not just the NHL, it's pretty much every major sports out there. It's ridiculous, watch any sport and you see gambling ads.

  27. I stopped watching hockey broadcasts a long time ago. If I catch one by accident all the analysts seem to be nothing but shills for the sports betting companies, not to mention the players.
