Why wouldn’t Kolosov want to play w Michkov down the road? I thought that would entice him
Éric Desjardins and Danny Brière were two of my favorite Flyers going all the way back to the early 70s. However, Jagr was a BEAST. Hated hated HATED him as a Penguin, but when he played for the Flyers, I became aware of just what an amazing player he was. Truly one of the greats. Isn’t he still playing in Czech Republic? Amazing. (OK, hate is a strong word – let’s call it “unbridled disdain”) anyway, Jagr is my choice.
Great point Russ living conditions for the young Russian and European players. I played 3 years in Europe starting at 21 years old. It was a culture shock 40 years ago. If you feel comfortable, you can play your game. I am sure the Flyers are putting everything in place especially for Michkov, as they have already put a big investment in him. It took me about a year to reacclamate when I returned to North America.
The position Russ and Rachel talked about would best be filled by a former pro player who actually played in European leagues like the KHL, DEL, SHL, etc. That player has unique insight what it’s like to be a stranger in a strange land.
Flyers need a cultural advisor if they don't have one already like what Russ says. I understand thay you can't just give in to players' demands, but how did they not get a sense this was going to happen with Kolosov?
